Why is the combat in these games so bad? I press a button from across the screen and my character auto runs over to the enemy to attack. The characters just stand there for a moment after performing a move or a combo waiting to get it without responding to button inputs to block, and it is just the same dull going back and forth on a flat surface beating on enemies and trading hits due to how stiff the game is.
I generally don't care for action RPG's too much, but at least certain ones like Ys actually gets the action correct to make it fast and more importantly fluid since it wants to be an action game first.

>there are people who non-ironically like non-turn based RPGS

This
Isn't there a full manual mode?
>>323382837
Does it fix the stiff as fuck combat or only takes away running across the screen when you press the attack button to get up to the enemies face?
>>323382658
>his reaction speed is so bad he cant even block an enemy properly
Don't play ninja gaiden, you'll probably go on a killing spree
>>323383163
Yes, that's why it's called manual mode. semi-auto is to ease in kiddies that are too used to turn-based rpgs.

Go to Arte on the character that you are using and press select
>>323382658
There was a chance to save RPG's. It was called Nier.
But western reviewers panned it because "lol Japanese"
>>323382658
Turn off semi-auto mode, you dork.
>>323382658
>Playing on Semi-Auto
dumbass
>>323383646
Maybe if we'd gotten the better version of Nier in the west....
>>323383646
They canned it because Nier's combat was kinda shit. Honestly the only thing Nier did decently was story.
>>323383358
>Finish a combo
>Guy is standing there
>Press and hold the block button
>Character doesn't do it due to an absurdly long pause after finishing a combo or special skill
>Since he doesn't respond to the button input and just stands there the obvious enemy counter attack hits him due to the games stiff unresponsiveness.
>>323383437
I'll boot it up and try it once again, the combat is god awful otherwise.
>>323384776
Which Tales game are you playing
>>323385360
Symphonia.
>>323384147
Don't you have to unlock manual mode in some games?
I know free run is usually a fucking bitch.
>>323382658
>Not being able to do this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=39zmGRYJ5tA
git gud
>>323385705
Play one of the recent ones which aren't Zestiria. Symphonia is clunky as shit. I recommend Xillia 2.
>>323385742
In phantasia yes, depending on version you either have to wait until near-end of the game(snes and gba, and even then you get it from side-quest), in the middle(ps1 and psp FVE) or from the beginning(psp tales of phantasia X).
I dont remember if ps1 destiny had it from the beginning or not.
>>323384776
this is undeniably true for dawn of the new world, but if that's the one you're complaining about your first mistake was playing it at all.
>>323382837
I've never played the first Symphonia, but if I remember correctly, Graces F required you to buy Full Manual from a store. Otherwise, it was just Auto and Semi-Auto.
>>323388746
That's retarded. But no, it's OP's own fault. Both control setups are available right at the top of the tech menu from the start.
