Typically MMORPGs and games like Dota, LoL and CS:GO are well protected because the games are constantly being maintained, however single player games with online modes like Dark Souls, Metal Gear Online, etc. are riddled with hackers(mostly script kiddies) purely because the servers aren't policed in any way.

It's really dependent on what game but even then it's incredibly rare in most cases. Most cheaters I've ever seen were in dark souls (~5 after 300 hours of play). You probably won't ever see one in game so don't let it put you off from building a PC.
