The reason why is because a lot of older software for windows 7 performs checks to see if it's run inside a windows 95 or 98 environment and since developers are retarded/lazy they simply check for the OS vendor string "Windows 9" as a catch-all phrase for both 95 and 98. This means that a shitload of programs wouldn't run properly on Windows 9 because it'd be detected as an old legacy unsupported Windows system, so they named it 10 instead.

Completely agree, beautifully said. indows 10 has a huge amount of anti-consumer practices including telemetry, forced app uninstalls, forced automatic updates, forced advertisements in the Start Menu, etc. Basically Microsoft forces a fuckload of bullshit on the consumer that only registry tweaks or third-party apps can disable.
Luckily, for anyone who begrudgingly installed Windows 10 due to wanting to play future DX12 games, there's a freeware app called O&O ShutUp10 that disables all the telemetry/updates/etc with one click. Now I'm not trying to shill at all (granted it's a free program anyway) because I recommend you pick whatever program you want (there's Spybot Antibeacon, DoNotSpy, and tons of other Win10 anti-telemetry apps.) So pick whichever one you want and enjoy a dramatically improved OS.

The hilarious thing is that Windows Updates are supposed to "download silently at a convenient time when the system is idle" and yet still chooses downloads during online gameplay (thus ruining the match due to lag, with no option to stop downloading the update) for some retarded reason.
