Why does it matter that reducing health isn't a kill condition when combos are still in and movement is extremely important? The conditions for KOs in Smash (by ringout) can make matches more volatile and huge comebacks more possible. If it were on a health system, it would not be as exciting, anyway.

Supposedly smash players brought in TVs and set up casual setups all over the floors near where Xrd semifinals were being held, no one could get past them to watch. The problem was made worse because the staff forgot to change one of the projectors to Xrd and all three of them were just displaying smash. It was a big moment that was being missed because the last american players remaining were going up against japan.
someone got the stream on their phone and set it up on a wall to watch instead. There was a crowd of about 50 people watching Zidane's Leo on a tiny phone stream and cheering and stuff, it was actually pretty cool. People kept wandering over and asking what game we were watching

RT was never alive, people only showed any interest in it because of Skill, and quality aside, everyone realized it had even less of a future then Skullgirls.

I've been to EVO since 2011 and I'll tell you what. The Smash community there before sm4sh came out and Evo 2014 was very laid back and docile. They had their little spot like the indie folks and things were chill. Very little major incidents of theft and whatnot. The Smashfags have accepted this until the Esports posers started flooding in and that's the beef the FGC has with Smashkids. Smash caters to the lowest common denominator of people and because it has NINTENDO branding all over it, the posers; the League esports kiddies all flocked to it. I've seen how different the smash people were this year. It's not like the time we had Brawl and they got all buttmad over a kid and items, no. But one thing I can say is that the venue was literally PACKED with posers and "gamers" who had no clue what was going on and was just there because it was "in". Literally smash itself is going through something worse than the 09er boom because unlike 09ers, these pieces of shit won't go away because esports and because it's "in" to be "nerdy".
That said I fear the worse this year with SFV. Also Smash has never been a part of the FGC. We've been drilling this in your fucking heads since Brawl was announced, you fucks.

At my local college we hosted a Fighting Game night with Sm4sh, Melee, Blazblue and Killer Instinct.
We had four different stations set up for each game, each station had a different TV, three of which were big LCDs and one was a CRT for Melee.
Two of the LCDs were 50" and one was 55". When the Blazblue players showed up and saw that they didn't have the 55" they banded together like fat martyrs and refused to play until they got the 55" because QUOTE "Our game requires us to observe every minute detail of the match and we cannot do so on a TV smaller than [the 55"]"
We decided to give it to them so as not to cause them to erupt into a weeaboo rage and get us banned from doing another FG night.
Next week we replaced BB withAnarchy Reignsand never looked back.

At Evo 2015 I made it out of pools in USFIV and got 4th in my pool in Melee (I also got like 8th in my pool or something in GGXrd but we don't talk about that). It's not super amazing but they're decent placings, and sure as hell better than any of you could ever do. Basically I know more about fighting games than every single one of you. Smash is just as much a fighting game as Street Fighter is, if anything Smash takes a good chunk more skill to play at a high level. And since I came from Street Fighter to Smash, I can say that actually Street Fighter tournament players think competitive Smash is cool. None of them hate Smash blindly for no reason. And most Smash players think Street Fighter is cool, since it's actually treated like a competitive game by it's devs. A lot of Smash players and SF players are good friends because they're all going to the same tournaments.

I can retort that. At my local scene while many of our Smash players do like fighting games and some fighting game players do play smash, they still force themselves and shit and take up the whole venue. We had a night dedicated entirely to fighting games. Then smash slowly creeped in and turned our weekly tournies into biweekly tournies. Not just that but when we do have our tournament the Smash kids can't learn to respect our own tournament and take up 75% of the venue and push and shove through an already crowded venue. Our TOs literally get close to beating the shit out of certain smash people. But all in all, it's flabbergasting that we no longer have a day where it's all fighting games thanks to Smash kids being all entitled and whiny that they can't go a day without their fucking party game.I'm waiting for the day one of them finally causes a scene with their bullshit.
