If people will fuss over her not having an asthetic-only costume in Super Mario Maker, they will lose it over her complete absence. Just look at the absence of Waluigi, another spin-off Mario character, from Mario Kart 7.Waluigi is the better character though.

People grew up with them as alternative choices to other characters for whatever 20 years or so. Some of the character choices back then for the games were generally "if you didn't like X, you have Y as an alternative." You can say it's like that now, but that's how it was back then as well. From the games they are playable in or at least some of the older ones, people took away whatever character or interaction they had as a reason to like them.
Daisy sucks. Should be thrown in the trash with Wart and Tatanga

People do play them. The Olympic games are actually competent and enjoyable, and the newest one (on Wii U at least; 3DS version has characters locked to certain events along with awkward looking models) may end up being the best one so far. Mario Party 10 and the new Mario Tennis are gif/webm fodder because they don't hold much worth going back to after playing it once or twice. The Olympic games has much more worth going back to and would help fill in a party game fix properly if you need one.

She needs a more defined and unique identity. Rosalina is much closer to Peach in terms of facial structure, but the ways in which her design differs contribute more to distinguishing her and ultimately make her a stronger character. Lighter color pallet, greater height, long flowing dress, her fringe and vocal direction; they give Rosalina an air of mystery, grandeur, maturity and elegance that Peach doesn't have. Peach herself is the stock 'pink princess' archetype, which is tried-and-true, but Daisy doesn't really carve out a niche for herself in the same way. She's just a frumpier brunette Peach in a yellow dress.
She's supposed to be more 'tomboyish', so overhaul her design to reflect that; make her look like a little more 'scrappy' or 'tough', maybe with a more summer-themed design to distinguish her from Peach and Rosalina (while also reflecting her origins). You don't have to go all Tumblr and make her look like some kind of dyke abomination, she can still be cute and feminine. If it was up to me, I'd bring back her N64 era tan (maybe slightly darker), replace her outfit with something closer to a sundress (something that gives her more mobility and doesn't leave her up as covered up as Peach is), and maybe make her a little shorter, and give her a pixie cut to help contrast against the other long-haired princesses. I'd probably rework her face a bit as well (something between what she has now and what she had in Mario Tennis), since I've always felt she looked a little strange.
