Even in the scrapped Zero storyline he didn't go Maverick since all his hostility was directed solely at Reploids. He had the ability to attack humans. The real issues started when Dr. Wily, a HUMAN scientist, started screwing with everything. The first robot masters were reprogrammed versions of Light's creations. Not only that, but Wily created most of the robots who cause all the violence and mayhem in the world.
If it wasn't for Wily, Light's creations would have remained good, never going haywire like this. Even the unprogrammed rebellion of Robot masters in Megaman 9 were good and ready to be dismantled due to their life cycle, but Dr. Wily stepped in and convinced them to retaliate. If it wasn't for Wily, they would have been dismantled, and everything would have been perfectly fine.

Considering CM doesn't reference or address any of the events of X8, I think we can conclude which one it is. It was probably just made a fun spin-off game, in an alternate setting.

ZX, no date given beyond "200 years after Zero series" so presumably 25XX.
Legends, no date given but for reasons I can't remember, might have been the acronym used in the Japanese title, people figured this takes place in the fucking 8000s.
Battle Network and Star Force are their own timeline, since BN is an alternate universe Classic series, I think we can safely say it takes place in a different 20XX. Star Force I know nothing about beyond it being in BN's timeline.

ZX is like a continuation of Zero, focusing more on gimmicky "attack modes" and transformation.
Classic is entirely focused on runnan, shootan, platforman, and directly copying the weapons of the bosses you beat. X is a similar vein, except with faster movement and wall sliding, and as the games go on they have also added saber combat with Zero.
Basically the main difference between Zero and the other games is that it seems to not use the Weapon Copy system as much [understandable since Zero does not have it]

The X series between 1 and 4 is pretty much golden, your mileage will vary for 5, 6 and 8.
And classic series is solid. 2,3,4 and 9 are all great, all the others are generally worth trying.

Ciel wasn't good at reploids, she was good at random jobber bots. She could never make anything like x or zero. She made copies of better stuff.
She was a child, but even between zero and zx all she made was, you guessed it, more bite sized copy shit (biometal).
The only thing she was good at was cyber elves, which, almost ended up being another zero virus. However, she wasn't actually responsible for the mother elf, just the random jobber babies that gave you shit power ups.
Cyber elves are shit anyways, can't s rank if you use them in the first place.
