Met a girl who plays vidya at work, I asked her what she likes and she said CoD. I don't know if she said it out of fear like us who don't want to be judged for playing niche JRPGs or anything beyond the view of casuals, or she really is just a casual, I'll never know unless I slip up first.

I work in retail, and indeed 90% of people I sell games to are guys. The other 10% are usually mom's buying games for their kids who are with them. So I don't buy the whole "women are bigger gamers than guys" bullshit. Facebook games and Flappybird doesn't count.

Many girls only play games on their phones. And even those who play on consoles, mostly don't like spending money on them. Instead they play on the consoles of the men in their lives.
My ex for example played a lot on her uncle's consoles, growing up, and later played on mine. She liked all kind of different games and was very good at some genres but would never ever have spend serious money on them.
Same thing with other girls I've been with throughout the years. My current girl, for instance, will play some console games but usually only with me or, if it is something that she really likes, if I buy it for her. She doesn't have a problem with buying games if they are gifts for me but she wouldn't spend any money on games for herself.

It is for a couple of reasons. My ex probably would never brought up how she played through RE4 on my GC on one weekend to her friends. Gaming used to be for geeks and she was a very feminine woman who was interested in fashion, make-up and all that stupid stuff. She didn't want to be seen as the buddy, tomboy kind of girl, maybe? Or she thought her friends would regard it as immature? I don't know really.
Also, she (and most other women that I know) think games are way too expensive. My current gf, on the other hand, would like to try more games but she simply can't be arsed to get used to 3D controls. She thinks most games are way too tense and difficult for her and can only play for very short bursts.

Well the thing with statistics is that it can be very manipulable. Take the term "Gamer" for instance. It doesn't really mean anything so you can create the narrative you want. As others have pointed out the 50% of gamers are women include cell phone apps and the like. Your normal street walker might consider that worthy of considering gaming, but this dark dank hole would never. Just look at pro gun vs anti gun stats in the US and you will get an idea of what I am talking about.

Unless you post their 'study' with their methods there is no way of knowing if it was a valid study (valid studies in peer reviewed journals have to). Even then people get in trouble for fudging research all of the time. I know that your post was bait but it wasn't entirely inaccurate so I think it warranted a reply.
I know a lot of girls who are into vidya. Maybe it's a national thing? I'm from Germany and half of my female friends are very into MMOs, survival games and jrpgs.

I live in Germany too. And I somewhat agree. There are some women here who are casually into videogames. But as a rule of thumb I'd say that most decent-looking girls aren't. It is mostly ugly girls who study Japanese and wear Pokemon t-shirts who are really into games.

Why would they have to spend money on consoles? Many guys own a shit load of consoles. Want to play some Mario? Go visit your uncle! Want to play some local co-op? I'm not saying girls should be the target audience for videogames since they're obviously still a minority, however I have met a lot of girls who play plenty of videogames. Most of them are casuals who only play famous triple A games once in a while (like Skyrim or whatever), however I have some female friends who are very hardcore gamers. It's not as rare as people seem to think.
My gf plays the Sims and Kameo on rare replay. That's about it. She tried fallout 4 for the town shit but didn't stick with it. Gonna try to get her into xcom because she like making characters
