Well, you would have to be pretty stupid if you we're to get "over-hyped" of DD in the first place, the way i see it there are two groups of people who have pre-ordered Dragon's Dogma:
The people who have not played it before and the people who have.
If a person belongs to the first group, he should look the game up, and watch a couple of videos (of any game overall) and get a good picture of the game before buying it, and even then keeping a cool head while doing it. No point in ruining (even an ok game) cause you think in your deluded mind that it's gonna be the gods gift to humanity. A guy like that deserves to have shit shovel in his mouth.
And if the person belongs to the second group (like i do) they pretty much already now what they are getting. One should remember that Capcom isn't doing a multi-platform release, so it's somewhat unlikely that there are any game breaking bugs present on launch, similar to the recent Batman release shitfest. They have had time to program and test the pc version enough, and i doubt it is in their best interests to make a shitty port.
But... i have taken preparations for even that unlikely event that the game is "too bugged". I'm just gonna wait till a couple of weeks/months and try again. It's not like my life depends on getting this game up and running at the next week, though that would be extremely nice since this is the first time i have actually bothered to "pre-order" anything on steam, and to a small extent this will have an effect on me pre-ordering games from steam in the future.
...oh, and because i actually personally enjoyed the console version.

The way you make your character effects how you play, short characters have small hitboxes, smaller and lighter weights have more stamina, heavier weights weigh the monsters down more, are harder to knock down and limb length plays into all of this it's pretty fucking awesome for you newcomers to the game.

Will do probably my first playthrough until post game as a fighter, level up the other vocations and finally settling on assassin. My pawn will starts as fighter, level other vocations but end up as fighter again at the end.
Both female to get the feminist bandit quest and avoid ogre enrages at BBI. My character will probably just be generic waifu but I'm gonna make damn sure my pawn is an Anita clone.
Playing on hard from the get go is a must, doing The Hero on my first go, clearing the Everfall before I hit BBI for some alright items and then I'll probably try for as long as I bother to get the best shit once I beat Daimon.
I have a friend that will play it for the first time and we will use each others pawns so I will tell him to make a mage for healing at first but change to sorcerer after a while. Will also make him play on hard.

Starting strider, then sorc for the rank 9 augments, then MA. MA will be easy mode for BBI, so I can gather monster drops and cursed gear fairly easily, to hand out to /ddg/ players that will need it.
As soon as I beat the hydra, I'm going into BBI to get the moonbeam gem to get the ring of perseverance, and maybe some wakestones, some level 1 gears maybe for a ring, if I'm lucky.

Well, some enemies are more easily dispatched with daggers. The one that comes to mind are dire wyverns, where their heart is located on their back between their wings. Bring them down with a ninefold bolt to the face, then jump on their back and shank the heart.

The only really bad way to level is to play like a fuckload of levels as an Assassin then start playing Sorcerer. And even that won't really matter all that much.

For instance you can level as a pure physical damage build and get 400 more physical attack as a passive stat, but with a sword that has almost 2000 its all good anyway.
What you do want to minmax however is your pawn

You choose their attacks, perks and weapons/armor. They have 2 alignments which will determine their personality in and out of combat, for instance if they go for big or small foes, if they look for utility in the environment or to help you out rather than doing damage.
Beyond that is a very cool system where they actually learn from what you do, so if you want to have a tank fighter pawn you should play a fighter yourself and let the pawn see what you do and they will actually start mimicking your behavior.

Sure thing bebbeh. MK is also one of the best classes, along with MA and assassin, for fashions dogma. You can get the sanctuary augment from MK, where your defense and magick defense increase by 50% when your health is critical (30%). I made a physical based MK, so I did a lot of time as a fighter and warrior. I wore the immortals armor set end game, and it regens health. By how I leveled, I just couldn't be killed, my defenses were awesome, and my health was high, and even if I got put into critical health, my defenses got even higher, and my armor would heal me out of it anyway.

Mage is worth getting the ranks in when you need to kill zombies or go into the catacombs since your healing spells damage the undead. I mean if you're a completionist you'll do it anyway, may as well choose a time of optimum effectiveness. Even without that you still have Comestion and Frigor spam which never really gets old cos they're rad spells, also Grapnel is a fun spell and only Mages get it.
Mage is still worth it as an Arisen for the augments and if you're a MK you'll definitely want some of them. But as I say if you're going to be a Mage at any point, do it when you need to kill skellies and zombies.

The base classes get a mix of health and their core stat, and the advanced ones like sorcerer get more int over health, and hybrids get a lower amount in health and their 2 base stats.
This leads stuff where if you wanted to minmax you could do shit like 10 levels of mage and then 190 levels of sorcerer, but who the fuck does that.

You'll miss out on some good pawns that people make since you are stick with your generic pawns, meaning you will miss out on some powerful good pawns that you can get from other players and sharing your own pawns.
Pawns really make up the gist of the game and its what make Dragon's Dogma even better.
Also, you'll start to get annoyed at how samey/repetitive your townfolks look, since random pawns make up the world of DD.
But besides that, if you don't give a fuck, you won't notice it.

Nope, even on medium. Skyrim's level scaling tend to fuck with me a lot and I will often face an enemy with ridiculous health and attack power where the will take out 80% of my health in one attack.

Easiest way to get RC in BBI is to godsbane in front of Daimon's chests until you get all poly(?) rift crystals. That's the most reliable place.
But, this is predicated upon the fact that you have BBI level 3 weapons so that you can reliably kill Daimon 2.0 and break through his defenses, which you'll need to grind for and purify at 20k/25k RC a pop for the level 3's.
