Doesn't live up to the hype. Transistor was better
>>
Yes it's good.
It could be great or amazing, but that depends on your taste.

It's worth the purchase anyway just for the music.

Fuck yeah, Manolo.

Best game I played last year. Surprised me more than anything, I expected things like 2deep4u, but what I got was a perfect game with the best soundtrack that Ive heard it in a long time.
Really, I love this game, if you can, give it a chance.

Only thing you could argue Bastion did better was plot, since you could actually understand what was going on in that game. But once you understand the plot of transistor, I think it was better overall. Most people will prefer Bastion's straightforward delivery style though
>>
It's a good game, but you should have gotten it for $1 from Humble Bundle years ago if you wanted it.

I agree with all of this, but I'm torn between the soundtracks

Bastion's overall OST is really varied while most of Transistor's is pretty gloom/serious. Transistor does have quite a bit more tracks with lyrics and it also has the BREACHED OST with humming and all that, which is another layer of work and sounds great too
>>
Fantastic game. I prefer it over Transistor
>>
I think Bastion was more fun than Transistor.

By the time you finally unlock all the abilities in Transistor, the game ends. Which is a shame, because I really liked the combat system.
>>
>>323287541
>better combat
It's a terrible hybrid of turn based and realtime that feels like the worst of both worlds, at least Bastion had better movement options and didn't make you feel hampered by playing in realtime; cooler weapons too.

I preferred the setting of Bastion, Transistor's doesn't really get fleshed out beyond muh virtual reality gentrified city, and while there's aspects of the Process that are interesting like them mimicking mankind, it's not fleshed out in any way and makes you leave unsatisfied.

Bastion also gets fucktons of more credit for weaving NG+ into its story and themes.
>>
>>323287541

nah, fuck you.

the middle eastern industrial city themes going into a more techno western theme as you progressed was great, and setting sail is a much better credits song than we all become

>Transistor was better
Transistor was twice as short and with disappointing amount of content.
Bastion had a simple yet enjoyable combat system which was pretty hard if you took all the idols, Transistor went for something more ambitious but simply did not have enough playtime to support it.

Also Bastion features way better world with some cool things like possibility of Rucks being an old Kid from another timeline. Not to mention that no moment in Transistor beats Kid carrying Zulf.

>>
>>323289070
You have to appreciate the amount of customization options that Transistor gives you. Some people have managed to deal 20000 damage in one turn in transistor. In bastion the combat is really simple, just run up to enemies and attack.
>>
>>323289551
This

Talking to Zia made me realize that I, as the player, only know the world how it is, after the calamity, and from the story the way it was before doesn't sound too great, so I have literally no reason to restore
>>
>>323289443
>Transistor was twice as short
Nah, I beat both games in just over 3 hours
>Transistor went for something more ambitious but simply did not have enough playtime to support it
This is true, but the combat is more enjoyable once it lasts. Problem is that once you get good, there's never any real opportunity to show off your skills
>>
>>323285121
breddy gud, I enjoyed it, especially the naration
>>
>>323290110

There was no depth to it, since the combat was still 'activate vats, do as much damage as you can, kite until vats recharges"
>>
>>323290163
The Kid had nothing to care in the world, aside maybe a girl that is mentioned when you get a memento item rigth in the begining. But probably she was killed by the calamity. So, being with the others in Bastion looks like the best option, indeed.

>Care to explain this theory in a few words
Kid and Rucks share similar face structure, hair color and more importantly, Rucks has a small scar exactly on the same place where Kid has bandage.
And given that Rucks had a heavy involvement in all experiments with Bastion creation and work with the Mancers, it's entirely possible that calamity or some similar catastrophe already happened once, forcing Kid of different timeline to jump back and seek for a way to avoid it. He simply knows too much about the entire setting.
>>
>>323290264
NG+ is where the real fun begins. Too bad most people quit after the first playthrough
>>
>>323285121

The fact that you can't go back and replay each level is bullshit. So if you miss a junction with extra shit in it and finish the level you're out of luck.

That was my biggest gripe with it. Otherwise great game with a great soundtrack
>>
>>323290617
I don't like this theory.

The main theme of Bastion is moving on after a tragedy and not being hung up on what you could have done. Saying that the Kid and Rucks are the same person weakens that.
>>
>>323285121
Story-wise a 10/10 masterpiece. Gameplay is pretty meh. Transistor is the direct opposite. If it doesn't make you cry, you're not a human begin.

>>323289551

Bastion is one of my favorite games of the decade. For me, it's an example of a game that sets a manageable and modest goal, and then nails it down PERFECTLY, which is something you see surprisingly rarely in games. It's not exactly a complex or deep game, especially not mechanically speaking, but it's beautiful, charming, thoughtful, never full of it self yet clever.
There is nothing unnecessary in the game, everything has it's place, everything has style. It speaks of surprisingly deep problems, features surprisingly great characters, even manages to sneak a little philosophy into the plot, it at the same time manages to feel like a fable or fairytale the whole time.
It feels a bit like a Miyazaki movie. Playful, charming, really creative, but there is a lot more under the surface than it seems.

Yeah: mechanically it's nothing to write home about. But then again the lenght is perfect for what the game can bring to the table mechanically.

Yeah, I'm a fanboy for this game. And I sadly can't say that I thought the same of Transistor. In fact, I never finished it. I plan to, eventually, but in the 2-3 hours I played it found the game to be immediately less appealing, and LITTERED with mechanical issues and annoyances. Plus the world felt far more sterile and lifeless (ironically enough). It had some really cool mechanical ideas, but the experience was never smooth for me - always something nagging or frustrating me. And maybe the story picks up later on, but in the first half or so I really did not even give a fuck about what's going on. It was way too abstract to actually form any kind of relationship towards.
>>
>>323290824
>The main theme of Bastion is moving on after a tragedy and not being hung up on what you could have done
Except nothing has changed. He avoided one calamity, but his work with Mancers led to the creation of Calamity Cannon, large-scale version of which caused new catastrophe.
It's impossible to avoid the destruction of city. Their confrontation with eastern people will always lead to destruction of both sides. Evacuation ending is a true ending as it allows to escape the cycle of unavoidable destruction.
>>
>>323291002
Hate to break it to you but the story never develops at all. The final boss is just some autismo who rambles for a bit and then Red impales herself.

Bastion has a good moral. Caelondians were autoritarian militaristic assholes and destroyed themselves trying to genocide the Ura. It can actually pass for a tragedy. While in Transistor the disater is caused by a bunch of spoiled faggots who ruined a nice, perfectly functional world basically for no reason. It's just senseless misery porn like Game of Thrones or the Walking Dead.

Transistor tries to be the opposite of Bastion. Bastion has no plot-holes and even shit like restoration can be explained with it's lore. Transistor on the other hand, was made with the very purpose of being vague as shit, so nobody can fully say what the fuck happened. Here is my take, as someone who has played the game three times and discussed it with numerous other people who did the same:

Cloudbank is a virtual world, kinda like the Matrix. It's not clear weather or not the people who inhabit it realize this. It's also possible the it's inhabitants aren't real people at all and only programs themselves. Thanks to it's virtual nature, it's a literal utopia in which everything is possible. If you read several character bios, you will realize that everyone is an overachiever living his or her dream job. To add to that, changes to the world, like new buildings or even the weather are determined by popular vote. Enter the Camerata. Royce is an engineer who is responsible for designing stuff like bridges and buildings that people vote for. Grant is an admin who applies the changes to the world and leads the government. Together they come to the conclusion that popular taste follows certain patterns. Royce realizes that buildings are removed to make way for bridges and then removed again to make way for buildings. As a politician Grant has represented each social class at least once and everything is trapped in a circle of patterns and repetition. "If everything changes, nothing changes" They are disillusioned with the ideal of a 100% democratic utopia and try to take control of the world themselves to shape them how they, the experts say fit, without having to give way to the whims of the public.
>>
>>323292021
The theory is absolute load of bullshit. Rucks was a scholar and an engineer. That is why he knows the factions, histories, know basics of the language. In fact, nowhere in the story is it suggested that Kid learns eastern languages, I can't even begin to comprehend how you thought that actually supports the Rucks is Kid theory.

More importantly: there is nothing within the story, WHAT SO FUCKING EVER, suggesting that time travel is actually possible, it makes no fucking sense that adult Kid, knowing the impending catastrophy, would be content working on the calamity bomb and in general - if your conspiration theory actually does not answer any question present in the fiction, and is based on concepts that are not in any way featured in the fiction, it's dumb and wrong.
>>
>>323292021
I think all of the things you stated, just proves that he was a badass OP and this is one of the reasons why he was involved in the doomsday machine development.
>>
>>323292021
>He also has some sort of miniature Cael Hammer on his belt and comments that he used it when he was younger.

Standard Mason guild equipment.
>>
>>323292513
This, I forgot to mention this.
>>
>>323291571
I'll try and break it down quickly.

Cloudbank is a city that is constantly changing due to the whims of the populace. People are able to vote on anything and it will happen immediately. Even the weather and the architecture of the city aren't immune to this. The Process, which are the robot things everywhere, are the ones who actually make these changes.

The Camerata, the humans who attack Red at the beginning, are sick of how Cloudbank is constantly changing. Their plan is to use the Transistor, which controls the Process, to get rid of influential people in the city. The first boss, Sybil, convinces the rest of the Camerata to attack Red because Sybil lusts after Red's hot body and is mad that Red won't reciprocate. At the attack though, Red's boyfriend jumps in front of the Transistor instead. Red then grabs the Transistor and flees the scene.

This is when the game begins.

>>323291440
How about... me.
>>
>>323293061
Since the Camerata no long control the Transistor and Red doesn't know how to use it properly, the Process goes berserk and begins trying to break everything down into raw components as sort of a "stand-by" procedure, waiting for someone who knows how to use the Transistor to give them orders.

Red just wants revenge for her boyfriend who has been eaten by the Transistor and is the voice you keep hearing. Every time that Red meets one of the Camerata though, they have already been processed or killed.

After running though the city being broken down by the Process, Red goes to the edge of town where she meets Royce at his secret lab. He tries to explain some stuff, but the player moves offscreen so we miss a lot of what he says.

In the final battle, Royce and Red are semi-processed by the Transistor and fight each other to escape back to Cloudbank. Red wins and as she walks through the remains of Cloudbank, lies down next to where her boyfriend was attacked and allows the Transistor to process her. The ending reveals that everyone who is processed isn't really dead, but have been moved to a sort of paradise inside the Transistor.

I did not like the story of Transistor because it has no relevance to real-life. At first I thought it was going to be a tragedy about the futility of revenge, but that's not really brought up. Bastion had a good moral to it about how grudges hurt everyone involved and how when faced with a tragedy, you can't become fixated on what you could or should have done and should instead look towards what you will do to make everything better in the future. Transistor is just mysterious for the sake of being mysterious.

Thanks for the explanation. It's been a while since I played Transistor, but it sort of makes sense now.

From what I remember, it wasn't even outright stated if the world was purely virtual or they simply achieved a complete level of control over reality to the point it might as well be. Kinda reminds me of Clarke's The City and the Stars, but a lot more vague for no real reason.

Come on. You'll have to at least admit that trying to figure out what the fuck happens in this game is part of the fun. For instance: Where does the final boss battle take play and what exactly is "the country". I still don't have a clue.
>>
>>323294371
It happened. Threads around the release were filled with posts claiming its a SJW or tumblr game because it had a girl in it.
The only reason it wasnt that bad compared to other games was that supergiant games are still relatively small releases and havent gotten that popular yet.
Theres always the possibility that the next game might get picked up by streamers or tumblr and the shitposting will rain down on all previous games too.
I fear for a future where liking Bastion will be considered bad around here.
>>
>>323294627
Final boss battle is inside the Transistor.

The Country is their euphemism of the afterlife.
>>
>>323294627
"the country" is a euphemism for death.
Think of it as some kinda mobster jargon as in: "Don't worry boss, Johnny Big Lips has been taken care of. He went to the country and wont interfere with our business anymore."
>>
>>323294783
>The Country is their euphemism of the afterlife.
But what even is the afterlife in a virtual world? Going to the country is also sometimes mentioned in a casual manner, so it must me more than that. Also don't forget the Rye symbols on the containera during the finale battle.

>Final boss battle is inside the Transistor.
Try again. "I've tried to look inside one. I didn't see much, didn't see much at all. It was like... staring at the sky." "Funny things about the Transistor: You can get in but you can't get out. Well, you can get in, but it's a one way road, a one way trip"
>>
>>323289252
If you choose to 'reset' at the end of the game, the Bastion returns the world to when it was first built, basically giving the world another chance. But, Ruks mentions that nobody will remember anything either, so it'll probably just happen the same way again. If you do a new game+, Ruks will bring up deja vu once in a while.

This must be one of the most overrated games I played but I only blame myself for falling for all the hype. I wish I'd last long enough to get to the emotional moments (Kid's backstory was pretty good in that aspect) but the gameplay couldn't justify spending any more time with it.

Yes that is what people sometimes do in the toilet

Well, yes in the sense that NG+ is justified by the Reset ending, and even contains allusions to it, but really, A) Reset ending does not make much sense under and conditions, and B) it actually leads to a paradox or contradiction. IF you chose the Reset ending AND the "NG+ is a result of the Reset Ending", then you should theoretically NOT BE ABLE to chose anything else than Reset ending again at the end on NG+, setting the whole world into an endless loop.

The people don't consider themselves programs and the final battle does take place inside the Transistor. There is some truth to Royce's words because she ends up going back into the Transistor anyway.

I hated the narration. I know it's western themed, but the way rucks narrates the story and says "the kid" all the time made it cringeworthy to me because he sounded like a fucking pedophile

There is something quite seriously wrong with you.

Is everyone an overachiever? I thought it was just the people you came into contact with because they were all "targets" of the Camerata. Like the detective almost discovered them and the radio guy could have been used much like they wanted to use Red, to sway public opinion. It doesn't matter much but I just got the impression that there had to be a silent majority of sorts to vote in these elections and make these other people famous.

transistor's narration compelled me more, to be honest

Personal preference in storytelling is one thing, being unable to handle a very classical storytelling device and completely commonly used phrase because you absurdly associate it sexual deviation is another.

it had more to do with how the voice sounded. "the kid" in every sentence only made it worse, but wasn't really the cause of it

Again, there is nothing wrong with with the narration, but something seriously wrong with you.

Holy fuck anon, you need to check your triggers there. It's pretty much impossible to get that impression from his narration

no other game, movie etc. ever gave me an impression like that. fuck you guys, rucks sounds like a pedo, deal with it

>>323306006
You are probably the only person that this happened to, I swear, that's a really huge stretch
