Portal 3 will take place years after the Combine have been pushed off Earth.
The Earth will be mostly empty.
The plot will be trying to find your way to the last humans.
Along the way you'll get some clues to what happened.
Maybe some graffiti will say shit about Gordon,
Maybe a TV set is stuck playing a loop about how to evacuate.
You'll get the gist that Gordon did something with the Borealis that did something to win the war.
And that's it.
Game ends and you see people silhouette in a bright light.

That's bullshit, HL2 brought nothing new to the table compared to the first Half-Life. Sure it was pretty and a fine rail-shooter, but for all the hype it gave nothing new to the genre; and most of the hype for the Source engine at the time was it's physics, which didn't even come to play in the game beyond a couple token "puzzles" which could've been faked anyway (atleast pieces of crap like Trespasser actually tried).
Half-Life atleast introduced (or was one of the first games) a few concepts we take entirely for granted today, like constant first-person narrative, essentially seamless and non-linear stage transition, and with the minimalistic HUD, it was probably the first mainstream FPS game that really brought the concept of immersion to the table.
HL2, while prettying it up and improving the aesthetics, added nothing to the gameplay (although if it ain't broke don't fix it). Not that I'm saying it's a bad game, but it's hardly some groundbreaking revolutionary game.
