I'm buying one of these games tomorrow. I played FFX briefly when I was about 9 or 10 and I don't really remember it too well. I've never played FFVII so I don't know if it's really as good as people say, or if it's just nostalgia talking. I'm a pretty big RPG fan so things like combat systems or reading text don't bother me.
Which in your opinion is the better game?
They're both great and you should play both. But I'd start with 7.

FFX is super easy. If you're after an Any% run, you should beat it in about 40 hours. Maybe less if you don't fuck up your sphere grid.
I recommend you start with X because you'll spend less time with it.
Alternatively, you might want to start with VII in case you get spoiled by voice acting and not-shit FMVs.
Just flip a coin to decide. They have unique ups and downs.

Go for VII first. X is about the third best FF out there.
FF7 is the quintessential Final Fantasy game. Not to appeal to popularity too much but it's arguably the face of the franchise, with several spin-offs, a movie, and now a straight up remake.
If someone told me they were only going to play only one FF game ever I'd recommend 7.
More importantly though, it holds up well. Only thing that I'd think would maybe off-putting for some is the character models I guess(although the battle ones are good). Everything else is top notch though, and no nostalgia for me as I first played it in 2013 or whenever it came out on steam.

VII, it's one of the best ones, but transitioning from FFX's graphics (especially if you're getting the HD remaster) might make FFVII's graphics seem a bit more jarring than they actually are.
