SONY COPYRIGHTS THE WORDS LET'S PLAY
https://trademarks.justia.com/868/01/let-s-86801899.html
better make a thread about it!

>underage kiddos don't know the difference between filing a trademark and that trademark being granted
>underage kiddos don't understand the concept of public domain.
#4theplayers
>>323231638
Pretty much this.
>>323231638
no the OP clearly said that they copyrighted it
>Non-final action
Translation: The office sent Sony a letter back asking if they think they're fucking retarded.
>>323231960
:/
>>323231960
The OP is stupid. You don't file an application for copyright. It's a trademark application, and it hasn't been granted, and probably never will.
>>323231440
>GOTTA PUT MY STUPIDITY IN ALL CAPS SO PEOPLE KNOW HOW RETARDED I AM
>HOW DO TRADEMARK APPLICATIONS WORK AGAIN?
>>323231440
If Brandon wrote about it, is serious.
>nintendo bans it
>sony monestizes it
>microsoft will think of something to do in a couple of years
>>323231440
First it is a trademark not a copyright
Second even if sony gets awarded the TM it can only be enforced in a limited capacity. IE: Sony can only stop "Let's Play X" games from being made and not actual let's plays due to the term being used heavily prior to the filing
remember the whole "candy crush saga" thing?
>>323231440
WTF! Would companies stop copyrighting/trademarking regular words like this and from the dictionary!
I blame those assholes from King doing that in the first place.
>>323234580
Yes and it was such a scumbag move.
But will this stop this shitty cancer?
pewdiepie is finishsed
based sony
>>323235232
Why would it? When has calling one thing something else ever stopped it?
>>323231440
To be fair here they could be making some sort of official Lets Play channel on the PSN or something and want to stop Microsoft and Nintendo from hopping on with similar stuff if it takes off. There is no real indication that they would start going after youtube Lets Plays or anything. Not that anything of value would really be lost if they did.
>>323234580
Yeah, and that failed horribly.
I do think that trademarking "let's play" has a very small chance of actually sliding, since it isn't a simple word like "candy" is.
>>323231440
It's a trademark, not copyright, and it's an application which hasn't been approved, and won't be approved because the word has been in generic use for too long.
>>323235374
>implying Sony doesn't love him
Post the controller
As someone who absolutely hates the idea of let's plays, this is truly magical.
>all these amateur lawyers trying to correct this old colloquial use mistake
I bet when people say assault you correct them and say it's technically battery too.
>>323231638
>sony gets caught red handed trying to steal a commonly used phrase from the public domain
>"shut up they didn't get away with it. It's not a big deal. You're underage"
shameful
>>323237375
Wow bro you're such a rebel, them normies huh?
>>323237969
No, it's a very large difference between copyright and trademark.
Nice try at your pseudo-intellectual bullshit though.
>>323231440
>sony taking the money out of entitled neets mouths
>sony literally could grind game streaming to a halt
BASED KAZ

D
We're already looking at a huge bubble of unemployable fuckwits when streaming goes out of fashion. We need to nip these future welfare faggots in the bud as quickly as possible.
>sony is killing lets players
ayyyyyy
>>323238124
>"shut up they didn't get away with it.
Which is accurate as it is highly unlikely they will be granted the trademark thus it's as consequential as some nutter suing the government for $100 trillion dollars.
>It's not a big deal.
It's not.
>You're underage
Either you're underage which is a reasonable excuse for lacking the or knowledge of basic legal matters and their implications or you're not underage yet continue to act like a child.
>>323238425
>it says here on your resume that you've spent the last 6 years as a self-employed video game streamer
>>323238421
Yes and the difference is completely lost when ordinary people are talking about it. There's no difference in peoples' minds between copyright and trademark, it's just legal gibberish. Anyone who tries to correct people on this looks like a sperg know it all, so have fun with that.
>>323231440
Bringing the word Play back to the Players.
>>323231774
this guy gets it
>>323233872
Everyone knows that people who watch other people play video games don't actually buy said video games.
OH NO how terrible something something nintendo never does anything wrong astroturfing
>>323231440
Status- 641- Non-Final Action- Mailed

>Everyone knows that people who watch other people play video games don't actually buy said video games
Five Nights at Freddy's wouldn't have blew up like it did if that were true.
