is this shit the most autistic subculture in gaming or what
>>

yes
>>
No, still Sonic or Minecraft. It's pretty fucking stupid, though.
>>
I've never been into speedrunning but I think it's pretty interesting. The people who do it are definitely legitimate autists though you're right about that.

It is kind of interesting to see all the ways they break games to complete them faster though.
>>
>>323186947

how is it completing the game if u just break the game in the first place?

if u figure out a way to bypass 1/2 of a marathon why should anybody applaud when you finish it in record time

Marathons have defined rules that dictate that all runners must run the full length of the course. All 26.5 miles of it from start to finish. Games have no rules except those defined in their code. Thus, if the glitch can be performed by a single human being with normal control input, then it's a valid form of speedrunning.

If you're worried about maintaining the "spirit" of the game, that's why different categories exist. But it's rare for any game that's been adequately researched to be truly glitchless no matter strict the category is. Runners will ALWAYS use quirks of the game code to reduce the final time. Otherwise, they wouldn't even be able to run diagonally in Quake, never mind rocket-jumping.

Yeah, it's why I stopped bothering.
There's no point if you just skip a huge part of or the entire game.

>>
>>323187778
Half the fun of speedrunning for me is hearing the commentary on why these glitches or abuses of the games rules work. It provides insight into how the game was made and the logic that goes into the design.
>>
>there are still people retarded enough to think doing glitches in glitched speedruns is "cheating" in the year 2016
>>
speed runs like DKC2 that are just glitch after glitch are really boring.
i enjoy Dark Souls speedrunning since there aren't that many glitches in the game, it takes a lot of planning.

>there's no rules except what's in the code!!!

>in an ideal world the devs would instantly and completely patch all or most of the exploits that these speedrunners use

what about RNGing which isnt code manipulation at all but rather manipulating the functioning of the codes?

it's all the same. you're not speedrunning the game, you're literally just hacking the game if you're using unintended exploits.

if you can't see the not so subtle difference between running diagonally in quake and getting an instantly full pokedex using glitches.

This, speedruns with bad narration aren't really that interesting no matter how cool it is technically. I really love learning new things about games that I have played.

>>323189160
This one too, there's nothing wrong with small gltitches but too much out-of-bounds faggotry and other such things sort of take all interest out of watching it. It's just too far from normal gameplay to be interesting.
>>
>>323186041
Did you just ask if Pokemon is autistic? or speedrunning?
the former is obvious and the latter is debatable depending on the game.

That's why there's different categories.
Sure, some people could just cut across the quad and go for the fastest time even though they're not adhering to the rules, but they're only compared with other runners who did the same.
Then, the people that run the full 18 laps are grouped together.

>if you can't see the not so subtle difference between running diagonally in quake and getting an instantly full pokedex using glitches.

Can you explain it to me?

Watching those autists rape the code like if it was a girl on Bosnia is the best to be quite honest familia

speedrunning is less stupid the more action oriented the game is
>so dumb nobody does it unironically
a visual novel
>really dumb
a JRPG
>pretty normal
an action adventure game
>obligatory
a platformer
>fucking duh
a genesis sonic game or any game that's heavily based on movement mechanics

Speedrunners are fucking autists. I mean, what the fuck, where's the appeal in finishing a game as fast as possible?
I saw him streaming. Shit is insane. Reset after every fucking small mistake. They make special routes for the fastest way. Going after every shit that might even save half a second.

Autists. It makes me sad knowing what my friend has become. Feels bad man.

no the equivalent would be going up to the scorebox and putting in 999 points for your team and saying you won the game because the rules dont say anything about not manipulating the scoreboard

thats what we're dealing with here
>>
>>323186041
Yes. You'd fit right in with their autism level considering you made a thread on a japanese owned anon image board, complaining about it and seeking validation for you reasoning.

>Play football
>Throw the ball
Shit nigger what the fuck are you doing, you get carded for that.

I don't know why people make it about cheating.

It comes down to this: which sounds more entertaining to watch, a 3 hour let's play, or someone bounding through a game at 100kmh in 10 minutes with ridiculous precision?

More like

> pick up the ball and run into the net

Its still the same game guys :^)

That's more like buying a gameshark
>>

I thought picking up the ball and running with it was the entire point of football.
>>
I'm pretty sure I saw someone speed running Diablo 2. Why would you speed run D2 or Pokemon? They're meant to take time. Why speed run in general unless it's some legit racing game or something. Speed runners are that one kid everyone knew whose parents never had any oversight so he spent all his time playing games and got obsessed over that one level he could beat anyone on and gloat.
