no your first playthrough still feels like a traditional souls game, there are plenty of places to go and there's a LOT to do even at the point where you're like "OK the game must be ending soon", not unlike souls really
that being said it's got much more of an action game mentality than an RPG one, so replay value is slightly more limited than souls
luckily the game itself is fantastic and extremely fun to play, it's just that each of your playthroughs will generally be more similar than playthroughs of dark souls.
first playthrough if you focus on exploration over fast completion you can easily break 30 hrs
point is it's a fantastic fucking video game and it doesn't even goddamn matter how long it is. video games end when you don't want to play anymore, not when you see the credits.
Just beat the game couple days ago. I clocked 69 hours, DLC included.

And you can find MGSV and Witcher 3 for the same price. All of them were $20-25 over the holidays. Price doesn't correlate to length of game or else games wouldn't be sold at the same price of $59.99 on release.
But yeah it's not long. I picked it up for $20 on black friday. That said though it's not really shorter than other souls games. The length of these games comes from being stuck in an area or on a boss. Once you git gud all souls games feel short.

Tips people game me when I started was go for Hunters Axe (it's a Str weapon with a badass R2 attack) and Pistol. As a first timer pumping Vit is quite important, End/Stamina less so, it fills up a lot faster than DaS or DeS (but it's still nice to have enough to pull off a full combo). Also you won't be able to level up for a bit at the beginning, so don't worry about ding and loosing your echos for a decent amount of time while you get used to the combat.
Other than that, I say just take your time and try to absorb every detail you can, this is honestly my favourite From world so far.

Took me 40 hours first playthrough (did all side content though other than chalice dungeons) and generally took my time to explore everything I could.
DeS took me 30, DaS1 I think about 50, and DaS2 was about 60 ish too.

It never dawned on me that Old Yharnam was 'optional.' It seemed pretty intuitive that it was the next place to go after Cathedral Ward, since the game doesn't really give you an obvious hint that the cutscene gives you the password to the door. It wasn't until I beat the BSB that I was like "uh, now where do I go?"
In fact the first thing I found was Hypogean Gaol when I died looking for where to go. Then I found the lecture building and got stuck at Nightmare Frontier. Finally gave up to look for help and realized that I had missed two areas, one of which was actually the right way to go to advance the game.
