The only way companies will move to VR is if consumers on mass start buying VR machines in which case they're probably going to want to buy VR games for it, which means the industry would be at an all time high, given the amount of people who would to have bought these things to make all companies switch to VR.
In this hypothetical, the industry doesn't crash just because you don't like VR, VR is actually doing amazingly well. Personally, I don't think that will happen nor is it even remotely the intention of VR at all to take over regular gaming, it's just another form of the same hobby.
