So I finally picked up a Wii U and some games but the store I bought it at didn't have and remotes or pro controllers in stock. "No biggie. I'm just going to get them at some other place", or so I thought. Not a single store in my vicinity has any controllers in stock. What the hell? And don't tell me that it is because of Christmas. I could have bought hundreds of PS4 and XBone controllers.
They are more interested in selling Amiibos than consoles now a days, won't be long before they are completely out of the console race unless by some miracle the NX is the next Wii.

There must have been quite a few people who picked the Wii U up over the holidays and now they can't play multiplayer games because Nintendo didn't provide enough controllers. Of course, I could order some online but I planned on inviting some friends over for multiplayer on the weekend.

Amiibos work in the same way - they put artificially low amount of them on the market so everybody buys them because they know that if they'll approach it in a "maybe I'll buy it in the next month, not now", they won't be there in the next month.
