I say that as a person who actually like visual novels too, so it's not coming from a position of butthurt.
VN's often have a branching story, but if i watch a Blu Ray movie with alternate endings, so does that, and it requires about the same level of button interaction, which in both cases is literally just pressing a few buttons.

I used to get into big debates about it, but to be honest it really doesn't matter. At the end of the day we're still both going to play whatever games we like, and the exact definition of "gaming" is going to be a fucking non issue again.
A lot of people like to shitpost about this but regardless of how you feel about Her story, it coming to Wii U before even the xbone and ps4 is pretty big, it means Nintendo would be stepping up their relationship with Indies.
Imagine if Nintendo manages to snag something on the level of rocket league for NX before it comes to ps4 or xbone.

It really isn't. Not in any way. No shitposting here, but Her Story is not some big AAA coup Nintendo pulled out of its hat.
It's an indie game about watching videos on a fake PC.
VNs are games. Choosing dialogue options which each return different results is gameplay. In the case of games like Ace Attorney, presenting evidence to find contradictions in given dialog is gameplay. In Zero Escape there is actual escape room gameplay and the VN segments just happen in between them
The only VNs that don't classify as games are ones where you literally just press next on a slideshow and you as the player can never impact the story in any way
