There's honestly a bunch, and if you're played one, you basically played them all, except for the niche cross genre ones that are half SRPG like tactics, and fire emblem, and the last remnant

Battle Network 2 & 3 for the best gameplay.
Ar tonelico and Surge Concerto for the best music.
Dragon Quest for where it all started and probably the most consistently solid series.
As for story, I don't know. Never understood why fags like stories so much.
Secret of Mana is good, but Chrono Trigger seems a little too basic when I can just get a better game with DQ.
