Why am I hyped for this game

I've not even completed the first one, I've just played most of the way through a gorillion times
>>
And that's why XCOM2 is based on us losing. As only like 20% of owners completed the game.

i'm going to enjoy the hell out of it

I've put 150 hours into XCOM and only beaten it once. Then again, I've never played on a difficulty below Ironman Classic and tend to restart over the smallest things. The game gets a lot less fun the longer it goes on anyway; you just snowball out of control until you've got flying snipers one shotting the entire map in a single turn. XCOM is a game about the ride, not the destination.

The game looks liek shit so far and I am mad.
>4 classes, another locked behind pay wall
>2 pekrs per ranks, all OP as fuck again
>enemies randomly dropping everywhere (aka, the unfun part of XCOM)
>buggy camera (half the time you cant see the alien you are shooting because of obstacles)
>horrible UI (why the fuck did they add that "interference" and horrible analogue video feed)
>horrible enemy design choices
>horrible squad weapon choices (one hand revolver replaced the military handgun 2 hand firing, grenades instead of rockets)
>RNG in item drops and research
The only good things so far are soldier customization and mod support. I was so hyped in the ARG before they announced it.
>>

So does /v/ really play this on Iron Man? I save scum in pretty much any permadeath game like FE and Xcom
>>

They check the ironman checkbox and they go great lengths to savescum anyway. Like Alt + F4 before your turn to restart last turn. Also restarting campaign is essentially the same as savescumming, you just savescum a longer period of time.

ALSO the actual ending if you beat the game, the alien ship was just a scout ship, I feel like the developers knew people wouldn't beat the game or pay attention to the story (because its awful) so they just shoe horned in some alternate timeline bs.

This game looks good but the weapon attachment being only random drops is terrible, did they announce what the dlc's are going to be?

Well that's what the whole infiltration mechanic is about, you can scout the whole map and see all the enemies sight lines without popping a pod. They've also added a icon to show whether or not you'll have LOS on an enemy when you hover over a tile to move to.
>>
>>323154293
I'm a die hard fan of the original XCOM, so i don't think you understood what i meant.
>>323154192
I don't like two things about the new XCOM. First is the dual movement/action thingy, where you can't just move a bit, or shoot and then back up or something. I understood what they wanted to do with this, but i just don't like it at all, especially with all the cover stuff and the enemies immediatelly jumping to cover the second you see them. It promotes cheesy tactics where you move everyone in one tight group so you don't aggro more than one enemy group at once.

Second thing is the shooting mechanic, which is complete bull when it comes to the cover stuff and hitting-missing. Few things:
- when you're in cover, it covers you from fire incoming from 180 degrees "in front" of the cover, which means that if a guy is wailing at you from dead center, he'll have the same cover penalty to hit you as a guy who's at, say, 60degree angle to you, which is dumb as fuck. Second problem is that other than the instance where an object completely conceals you from the enemy, objects don't do shit in terms of stopping enemy fire. Units will happily shoot through walls and hit the enemy if the internal algorithm told them they scored a hit, which is fucking bullshit. Moreover, when you miss, you pretty much miss in the same way - you shoot slightly up and to the side and even if you hit another enemy "graphically", the hit doesn't register because there's no such thing ass hit detection in this game - you shoot a target and you either roll hit or misss on the dice and that's that.

I think new XCOM is a nice game,it has a nice theme and feel, but to be really frank, old XCOM was leagues ahead in terms of accuracy/shooting/cover formulas, at least for me.
>>
>>323154575
Im not sure but i think they changed the free turn stuff
>>
>>323149185

I'm excited for it solely because its one of the only strategy games where you can play as actual insurgents doing insurgent things and participating in guerrilla warfare.

That's a flavor of TBS I haven't seen yet.
>>
>>323154991

I answered you movement bit here

>>323154979

When it comes to shooting, I know they added shooting angles as an option in the Xcom expansion but the rest is just the reality of a game like this, the whole hit detection thing or people getting upset about missing close range shots has never bothered me, to me it's just a representation of what is happening, adding hitboxes would be pretty pointless and would just mean more resources would be taken than needed. To me that's just the reality of it being a 3D game rather than 2D
>>
>>323154293
>If you're complaining about the gameplay in general then I don't think the turn based tactics genre is for you

It's essentially a board game man, imagine the soldier's just shooting into the sky if it hurts your autism that much
>>
>>323155387
>I know they added shooting angles as an option in the Xcom expansion
Elaborate? I got it and the Long War and from what i'm seeing it works just the way it always did.
>adding hitboxes would be pretty pointless and would just mean more resources would be taken than needed
you what? What are you on about?
>To me that's just the reality of it being a 3D game rather than 2D
But old XCOM represented a 3D space anyway, just in 2D graphics, just like old Doom. Just because something is 3D doesn't mean it has to do a shit job at shooting formulas. If anything, current developer tools would make it easier for devs to code in hit detection and what not.

As for the movement thing, that only answers the enemy detection thing, but do they still move into cover, or did that change?

This was a noticeable problem in EU, the game tends to just become trivial and finishing it isn't really worth the time. I don't know if Firaxis plans to address it, the same thing happens in their civ games. We already had mods to improve that and will have again, but it'd be nice if the base game could keep itself interesting.

Yes, I am. When I research alien weaponry I want to know what I am getting out of it. Instead of 60% a gun and 40% grenade. You know, so you can plan ahead. Like in strategy, like in not just click whatever the fuck and getting away with it like in XCOM in anything under Ironman.

You're one of those retards who thinks every time someone gets a new idea they should immediately put it into the product and never finish it.

Ok it's bait, but it's so shitty and poorly thought that I'm just gonna fall for it. When you restart a campaign you implicitly lose that campaign.

Name a single developer that during development never thought to themselves "This would be neat to add on later" The only difference is they are fully committed to adding it which one can easily reason is due to the projected success of the game they have more room to consider what can and can't be DLC and just like anything else you can choose not to buy it

Your view is very optimistic and if its like that, that is great. But just for a second, consider they planned it for the game in the first place and then cut it just so they could sell it to you as DLC. I mean come on. This is happening all over and firaxis are DLC jew kings.

>>323163640
If I restart a turn, did I implicitly lose the turn? Did I lose the campaign? Yes. 5th class is Psi Operative. It works completely different from other classes, watch ChristopherOdd's video about it.

Its a welcome change. In XCOM2012 psi was basically just a buff to an already good characters, now they can go completely wild with it and have some really interesting skills.
If its any indication, Rift is one of the least interesting skills in their skilltree.

Why dont you just research for yourself? Anyways the answer is mixed.

You can train rookies to become a specific class, but if you take rookies to a mission they get promoted to a random class.

So if there's someone you really want to be a sniper you can do that, but early on you're going to get some RNG class choices.

But the whole "get 7 supports in a row" thing is basically impossible now.

It's going to be good, especially if you like turn based tactical games.
I'm a bit worried that it will get a bit repetitive like EU (very similar successive maps, not enough enemy variation). But the AI seems to be a lot better in this one, maps looks pretty good as well. Price for base game and dlc is pretty steep though.
I know I'm going to rage from the beginning with all the mind controlling, at least it looks like you don't start off by shooting friendlies.
>>
>>323149185
finishing xcom is boring. but it's just fun to play for a bit.
>>
>>323170496
There is no chance of the maps repeating as much as in EU, now that they're assembled from pieces. And they've already shown a ton of enemies. I'm just hoping there are still some new ones left that they haven't shown.
>>
>>323170496
For me it's the hype of direct modding support that'll get me.
If it's not in the game, there's chances are ways to work it into the game, and you might not need someone else to make such mods possible.
I already know my first mod I'm aiming to do is depending on what's in the game already, aim so that if you live capture aliens, you can collar them and make them expendable units. Depending on how hard it would be to implement them as PC's ( as they ARE usable in the multiplayer mode, so the player can control them in some fashion ), maybe construct a faux skill tree for a few of them and the like so you can keep them around if you want to.
That's just making use of what the game will already have at release as well, and not directly 'adding' anything directly new, just changing accessibility by a few notches. I'm pretty damn sure we'll see another 'Long War' crop up, and a lot more 'supportive' mods too that add perhaps new map cells/tiles, and even new foes over time like game such as Dungeons of Dredmor, Fallout 4, and the like have seen when modding was supportive and easy to implement.

Wow, 5 fucking dollars, woe is me. If the DLC is worth it, you'll chances are still be able to buy all three for the $20 pricetag later like a ton of other games that pull this stunt ( SR3/SR4, Borderlands 2, ect ect. ). Less controlling, more say being able to interact with their equipment and the like. Change what guns they use, and perhaps fiddle around with their skills. There was a bit of that in X-Com 1's multiplayer, though only ever so little in turn, and no one really 'banked' onto it at that given how hard it was to fiddle around with it beyond an all out overhaul ( you couldn't do a small mod without breaking everything else trying to mod it ). I'm hoping X-Com 2's a lot better in that area.

Indeed.

Can't wait for XCOM2 and to unleash a hailstorm of counter-propaganda.

Bring it on.

And it would work nicely with new 'bring back your dead dudes back to the skyranger' mechanic.

I didn't realize Citan Uzuki was going to be in the new XCOM. Does this mean Xenogears takes place in the same universe?

I've played a lot of rpgs and strategy games. I've played Fallout 1 & 2, the original Xcom, Terror from the deep, apocalypse, Silent storm, Jagged Alliance 2. And this game SERIUOSLY have a wonky RNG.

Too late. We know the truth. I know the truth.

There is no stopping us. You took away the peoples' nationalities, but XCOM soldiers will display their ancestry with pride and dignity.

Watch the shadows ADVENT scum, for XCOM will not rest until your Vichy Earth will fall.

Well if they were going to go that route they could have at least given her a ching-chong accent. Kind of lame that all three advisors have American accents in this game.

I've completed XCOM Enemy Unknown a bunch of times and XCOM Enemy Within once. But now whenever I try to do a run through XCOM Enemy Within again, my game crashes when the XCOM HQ attack happens. I've tried 3 campaigns so far and all of them ended there because the game keeps crashing. I guess XCOM 2 is why they havnt fixed the glitch yet

What killed Iron Man for me was the piss poor UI and how many bugs are still in the final build of the game.

Maybe it is something to do with your machine.

In my case it works smoothly.

>>323177197
Implying he won't break ADVENT computer games.

Also wondering about Vahlen. Will she be in here as a ADVENT collaborator? Or as someone forced into their service?

>>323177216
Nah. Would like him to get a good ending.
>>
>>323177514
>would like him to get a good ending.
the only way he can die is in an act of heroism they can't make him die like a bitch after winning
>>
>>323177216
He still has a group photo of himself, Vahlen, and Shen sitting in a display case in the avenger's bar.
>>
>>323174239

>>
>>323177514
>Nah. Would like him to get a good ending.
What good ending could Bradford possibly have? Seems like he's got no family. The Commander is probably the closest thing he has to a friend, and he only knew him for a month. His entire life is the XCOM project, there is no happy ending for him.

>maps looks pretty good

Sure about this? Are all maps going to be procedurally generated? Despite potentially repeat their appearance, designed maps are objectively better. This is one of my main concerns for the game.
