Lately I havent had too much motivation for Melee. I dunno, obviously I'd like to be better but can never bring myself to study vids more consistantly or attend events/tournies more consistantly. I still find Melee fun, I might end up just doing the slow grindy way of improving instead of other ways since thats the only way I enjoy myself with the game

you need melee 1.02 specifically, and you can only play with people who have the exact same version of dolphin as you, so make sure you grab the right one, current standard is 4.0-7840 I think. Other than that its just configuring settings, make sure cheats are enabled and enable community netplay settings.

if you feel like it, it doesnt have to be a burden, I find it fun just beating up a level 3 CPU with random DI, it helps me improve my tech and combo game while still being entertaining.
