When was the last time a videogame left a clue on where to go in the main story on a random note or audiolog?
>game has a heavy basis on story telling
>the story came before the gameplay when designing the game
>the game tries to tell a story more than it tries to deliver good gameplay

Oh, alright. Fair enough, then.

More like wrpg
Some of that is really unnecessary and make things far more convoluted then needed to be.

>an MMO where nobody reads any of the dialogue because it's dry boring shit
>many characters all over the world have something different to say after every main-scenario event
>you frequently have the opportunity to talk to story characters in-between cutscenes for additional flavor
>literally thousands of pages of dialogue that nobody will ever, ever read
>mfw imagining some poor person actually wrote all of it
what is mass effect?

In Bioshock I listened to every audio recorder.
Later I was finally getting anxious to hurry up and beat the game so I telekinetically decided to grab one and throw it haphazardly somewhere thinking that if I need to I'll listen to it later because I know you can't destroy them. However, as soon as I did I couldn't find it, and I spent like 20 minutes trying to figure out how I got it beyond the game's boundary (note, by this point I was well familiar with the buggy aspects of Bioshock), because I knew if I saved and it was essential, I'd be stuck. But I moved on and decided it was useless.
Shortly after that I was stuck in this part where you have to enter a specific code to ride an elevator. I've never used a guide on a video game since Majora's Mask came out and never planning to, so I was stuck on the game for what must have been 8 hours, before I finally gave up and asked /v/ what I did wrong.
It turns out I threw away the only recorder in the entire game that actually mattered.

Are there any games besides the System/Bio Shocks, the Elder Scrollses, and New Vegas that have logs/books worth reading?

Few games get this right.
>Listen to audio logs, but stop 1/4 of the way into the game because they're idiotic.
>playing an actual good game
>put on the audiolog while I search a room
>both the room and the audiolog are interesting
God I love this feeling, it should be done more often.

>game has audiologs, notes or books
>you try to read and listen to everything because you're actually interested for once
>game forces you to go out of your way to get all of them for everything to make sense
>say fuck it and stop giving a fuck
This is why I hate collectibles, they ruin the experience.

I don't see why MMO writers can't make it at least on par with the story of a single player RPG but they're always so fucking boring somehow.
I mean sometimes they can surprise you and have something fun/interesting in there but when you're trudging through 40+ hours of cutscenes and story and only find 5 minutes of it actually worthwhile it's just a fucking mess.
