Great game, a milestone in role playing games and a hall mark in the series. The game did what so many has failed to do before and broke into mainstream pop culture, attracting quite a number of gamers who have either never played an RPG game or generally just didn't play much video games in general. With its streamlined gameplay and vast locales, as well as its dual ongoing storyline, it successfully brings true open world role play into the modern and console age.

I know you're playing pretend shill, but I do find it incredible that Bethesda managed to bring a once-niche genre screaming into the mainstream by just removing a few things.
And yes, I'm talking about removing them from Oblivion - Oblivion from Morrowind was a huge downgrade compared to Skyrim to Oblivion.

I'm being completely serious. You don't have to like the game, but to deny the impact it had would be to show incredibly biased you are against Bethesda as a company.

It's okay. Gives you 50+ hours of gameplay before you get bored of it. Moddable too so for people who are into that they can make their porn and shit.

Interesting for the first few hours. Then you quickly find out how shallow the gameplay is. Not sure what people see in this game to be honest.

Perfect example of dumbing down gameplay mechanics for mass appeal. The really painful part is that it worked for them so hard we'll never get games like we used to like. No other developer is making open world games as good as Bethesda used to either. So as someone who enjoyed older entries, I can see what the game does right, but what it means in the long run is that the games I won't be getting any more of the games I really enjoyed. It's just like when RE4 hit and completely changed the gameplay of Resident Evil games. Only now that years have passed and their modern games have flopped hard are they even attempting to make a return to the series' roots. It's not that I don't enjoy the games or don't have fun with them, I just think they used to be better.

>Open world games have become synonymous with survival games, usually with zombies.

Just end me, senpai.

It's not a great game and the impact it had made open world games exceptionally dull for years to come

Huge beautiful world with lots of potential ruined by generic "radiant" quests and bad writing. I really want them to put more work into quest and character design for the next installment. Mods can only do so much when the average NPC still has one annoying line of dialogue and a fetch quest to a draugr dungeon.

Still I enjoyed the game overall.

So, /v/, what quests and gameplay mods would you recommend?
I just finished installing a cartload of visual mods to make it look decent and modern, but I've already played through it twice - I want some new experiences.
Also, will I have to re-install all of my mods for the big mods, or will they just be slightly less optimized?
