Are you kidding? There's a handful of kids who want their claim to fame. If they want to connect with "us older folk" as well as be "different" from the CoD audience, they'll flock to it. It's unfortunate, but it's where we'll get a lot of fresh blood. Even despite that, there's people who are literally just waiting for the basics to get cracked so a good handful of map makers can start - they don't want to get the brain juices flowing if they're not certain it'll matter. All things considered it's the best vanilla private server to date. It's got no stupid donations bullshit, almost 97% of the mechanics work properly. They've even fixed some of the bugs that were a problem back in vanilla like the loot bug or falling through the ground when blinking or charging.
That being said though. You're right. It just can't capture the same feeling it had in 2004-2008. Those years were fucking golden and I don't think I'll ever experience something like that in an MMO again. Maybe it's because I'm older or new MMOs just don't have that same magic, but I don't see myself dropping 4 years straight into another game ever again.

To this day I still think it has the best persistent world out of any online game. Why the fuck has nobody thought of NPC bases that can be invaded by natural enemies at any time, and if left unchecked could contaminate the entire map? It was what I was hoping fucking Destiny would do.

Servers aren't shut down but it's pretty much only hackers fucking up everything.
Also, you could easily beat out dead eye shitters if you could shoot them in the head quick enough, PvP was the funnest shit in that game, even just rolling with 3-4 of my friends in a game fucking up everyone was.
