>all this projector hate

a year ago, i would have laughed if anyone mentioned a projector. But the recent advancements are impressive.
1080p short-throw 3d for $700?
I can throw it in my backyard and hook my laptop to it and play whatever i want while projecting on the house and sitting by a fire?
Yes sir.

It's still vastly inferior to VR.
>>
>>323118752

Its the lenses and a high enough quality screen to really make it work that is the problem. People manage it but end up spending roughly the same for what is probably a somewhat inferior product. If you still want to though just check around the VR forums, there is a pretty big community.

If I wanted a headset for film, I'd get the Avegant Glyph
>>
>>323118752
sony already sells something pretty cheap like that, compatible with many platforms

google it

You don't need to have anything attached to your head at all times blocking your vision from anything else and you can enjoy it with your friends/family, so no.

It's Apples and Oranges. I also have a DK2 and tried some of the latest prototypes.

Watching movies in VR is going to be pretty shit for a while, you're basically watching movies in sub-SD resolution. I'm totally into VR for games but for movies, it's just a gimmick. I'd never use a VR headset over my projector until they get to at least 4k per eye.
>>
>>323119419
So when is your virtual reality headset being released, smart guy?

a toaster is enough for vr porn and 3D videos. a $50-$100 gpu will be enough for cinema experience like pic related.

i always wait until movies are about to leave theaters and then go. Being around a bunch of smelly, noisy shits is annoying.

What's the best cinema program for rift?

I've heard of cineveo, riftmax and maxvr.

take away the headphones and dac and it would have been $400.

>fill the theature with other peoples avatars
>feel like a real movie theature

fuck thats awesome. It'd be like being able to see the original star wars movies in person.
>>
>>323120529

I got that. I still want to go when it's not packed i.e. once it's nearing the end of the run.
>>
>>323120332

This nigga knows what's up. I have, on occasion, watched a movie in a room with 2 or three other people. I actually watched the first Silent Hill movie in the theater by myself. Way better than being in a room packed with loudmouth morons who aren't my friends (when I'm with friends, there's a good chance we will be loud on occasion).
>>
>>323100667
That's fucking retarded. It doesn't have the rumbling of the massive theater speakers, or the popcorn and icee that you place in the cupholder of your recliner. No one in their right mind would choose this over going to an actual theater unless you live in bumfuck nowhere where it takes longer than 10 minutes to walk to your local theater.
>>
>>323120552
Depends on the projector. Many are in the 4000-6000 hour range if you keep it in Eco mode which is plenty bright if you have a light controlled room, which you should if you're even considering a projector. They can be as low as 2000 hours or even 150,000 hours if you get a laser hybrid or a LED one.
>>
>>323120672
Sure, it's always better if you got the place to you and your buddies, and that's something you won't be able to do with VR, since you're always alone there. Forever.
>>
>>323120552
most projector bulbs these days have a 5000-7000 hour lifespan, then you just replace the bulb for $100-150 when it burns.

Add troll options like using little phones, or talking a bunch into a mic.
>>

That'd be like 4 times worse than real theaters, unless you strip all avatar functionality and just glue them to chairs.
