What is killing the game industry and limiting game quality?

Limitations of consoles?
PC Pirates?
Normie crowd?
>>
>>323087846
Normalfag crowd easily.

Money. It costs a lot of money to make quality games. If it doesn't sell a lot you lose your shirt, so you play it safe as much as possible.
>>
All of the above.
>>
The replacement of talented programmers with people who fell for that commercial about tightening the graphics on level three.
>>
>>323088269
It only became expensive as fuck when normies came in and started making such a big deal out of graphics
>>
>>323087846
What do you mean by "game quality" anon OP ?
what defines quality for you ?
>>
>>323087846

All the good companies are being bought out and shut down by mega publishers, those who aren't are being forced to develop (Or now have awful dev teams) for the lowest common denominator.

Games are now being churned out as quickly as possible with as little content as possible to turn maximum profit, or they're being made just to make political statements.

The game -industry- killed game quality.
>>
Normie crowd.
>>
Normalfag crowd. Specifically companies constantly trying to get COD level sales by attracting the normalfag crowd with the most safe (read: generic) game designs. These games are often rushed to completion, and forced to try to sell a fuck ton to make up for the millions they put into advertising.
>>
>>323088445
Technical quality
>>
>>323087846
Stagnation is due to every publisher and developer playing the field as safely as possible by following an already-tread path that other games made before them and an audience that isn't telling them to fuck off with their wallets like they should be.

It's like a neglectful relationship that sustains itself because "it's all that they know" and they're too afraid to speak up. Blame actively lies on both sides.
>>
Western "game" design philosophy is the main cancer. The secondary cancers are dumbing games down through focus testing and DLC practices.
>>
This makes e thing what if we let the industry die from the inside. And rebuild from point zero?
>>
>>323087846
The lowest common denominators. So normies.
>>
>>323087846
Wanting to make CoD numbers matters more than making a game that you want to make.
Publisher bigwigs don't care about why these games are made or who they're made for so long as it means guaranteed sales so everyone tries to make the same bottom of the barrel casual movie shit.

Practically every big name AAA game is a third person cinematic experience of some sort.
>>
Consoles. If normalfags just played on PC there wouldn't be a problem. If consoles disappeared pretty much all the problems with modern gaming would disappear.

>no console wars, everyone just strives for the best builds and the best hardware is dictated by what runs shit the best, not marketing
>no exclusives, no more greedy console hardware manufacturers snatching up studios to produce games solely for their plastic shitbox
>shit studios who only survive by getting bought by console manufacturers to make exclusives die out, once their in the same market as everyone on the same platform, it becomes apparent how shit they are
>AAA games all but disappear since publishers will have a much smaller role, more of an indie market, like before gaming got big
>brick and mortar game shops are finally gone, which means FUCKING GAMESTOP gone finally
>all games are digital, no more dumb cases, discs, manuals, ect
>controllers eventually die out, kb+m is finally what people associate with gaming across the board
>no more fucking need for developers to hold their games back for consoles, each game can just require better and better hardware, no excuse for everyone not to upgrade since they'll all be able to
>poorfags die out of gaming
>normalfags who can't keep up just find a different hobby or play on streamlined consumer gaming PCs which bear some resemblance to consoles, but without the locked-down, cancerous nature
>>
>>323087846
graphics fags who think a game is utter dog shit if it runs at 59 fps. normies who support dumbed down games. pirates. consoles. fanboys who shit on everything that isnt on their system. devs who pander. companies only looking to make a quick buck. basically video games are cancerous.
>>
>>323087846
it's mostly
>games are too expensive to make
>marketing is rediculously expensive
>thus having to appeal to mass market in order to make money back.
>>323090609
worst bait i've read this week, nice one anon.

PC gaming in general is a cancer on the community. Pirates, #GamerGate, 60 fps meme, ASSFAGGOTS, the death of japanese AAA devs, etc.

You can draw a straight line from all that to the toxic PC gaming community.

This just shows that you need to know how to be an effective businessman if you're going to try to do shit on your own. Obviously there's no defending this retard, anyone who has been in a production based business knows that people who know less than them about what they're talking about will inevitably complain about things they don't understand. This guy would likely be a lot more comfortable in a SMALL, NON FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE role, where it's not just his project. That said, you have to be a special kind of stupid to post publicly that you need legal fees because of your own idiocy when people are already leery of your ability to manage money.

It's not the limitations of consoles that hurting and limiting gaming quality.

It's the idea that we have to constantly be pushing those limitations and stretching the raw rendering power to its limit and the fact that you have to neuter the gameplay to appeal to so many people to justify your insane budgets.

Look at Bethesda. All their games are built on the idea that 200 hours of quasi-random but ultimately trivial activities are worth more than 30 hours of meaningfully crafted content you might have gotten out of an action-adventure title on the N64 or PS2.

Or how Ubisoft basically makes one game about an open world where you have to collect random shit, liberate zones and occasionally do story missions, and rebrands it three to four times.

Limitations bred creativity. Now that we have all the power in the world and can basically make action scenes where occasionally we have to push our character to move forward and press the jump button, we use it as a fucking crutch for want of good gameplay.

Two or three decades ago the question was how can we do what we want, with what we can do? Now we can do everything and nobody wants to do anything.

>PC Pirates
Nigger, the most sold games are usually the shittiest.

Do you really believe that?

When I got killed it was a person, just like persons killed the Industry.
>>
>PC Pirates?

Reminder that video game publishers and developers lose more sales every year to used game sales than they do to piracy on any platform.

In order of importance:

>Insufferable influx of normalfags
>Which directly leads to casualisation of mechanics and features, focus on story instead of gameplay and nonsense discussions (cinematic fps) that we wouldn't even have otherwise

>Blind fanboyism
>There wouldn't be a million CoDs to complain about if people would simply stop buying them
>Also people, especially online, regularly shilling and defending multi-million dollar companies is about as ridiculous and disgusting as it gets

>Pre-order and DLC/season pass culture
>Both of these have gotten completely out of hand, are often rigorously anti-consumer and directly lead to inferior games and standards

These are the top 3. Pirates, games 'media', twitter drama, hardware limitations, day1 patches, overuse of online/social integration etc. all do a certain amount of damage as well.
