I don't even follow these games. I have no clue what any of these are. I just see that there's the "Indie flavor of the month". Western games with sub-par pixel art that get tons of praise. Yet much better Japanese equivalents are ignored.

1. Earthbound has a huge Western fanbase.
2. These games appeal to typical non-gamers and casuals by story, humor, etc. Not by gameplay. They typically ahve simple gameplay.

There's literally THOUSANDS of shitty platformers with every sort of variation. If you'd take off your weaboo vision glasses you'd realize there's just as many shitty indie games by doujin groups from japan as there are from the west. Asking for more is not the solution. YOU just need to go out there and find it. I guarantee it exists.

More like a handful, and only a few of them were good. It was always a niche genre.
