I can see that however pushing these boundries can produce interesting outcomes, who knows what it would be like to play as an alien that wasn't so closely humanoid, it wouldn't even have to be that great of a change like playing a walking giant squid, just something a little different than a blue 6ft tall human with pointy ears etc. I know designing the game to accomodate non humanoid forms is difficult (level design, navigation etc) but it could be worth it. At any rate the non humanoid aliens in Andromeda need to have a more active role in the world and not be simply stuck in one place forever in the hope that the PC talks to them.

I love the fact that they try to push diversity but basically draw the line when something looks inhuman. I love it even more when they tried to explain this in SWTOR despite being in a time period when the majority of cgi movies that come out are about anthropomorphic non-humans as lead characters.

This franchise needs to die and stay dead. I bet it's going to be the same broken ass repetitive cover based shooting and the story will be unoriginal and cliched with tons of pointless grindy side quests throw in there for good measure so that the game can claim it's open world and non linear.

Its a shame that ME is so restricted by humanoid shapes. The level design hurdles would be great but isn't that part of what sci fi is about? what would a city look like if it had to accomodate non humanoid shapes or even humanoids but of different sizes and heights, think of Dark Souls giants, some of the level design in that game had giant staircases alongside small ones for humans, now take that design philosophy into ME an you could end up forcing the designers to come up with brilliantly "alien" city/infrastructure designs that reflect a multi species population.

I've been playing the original ME again and got hooked, tried playing 2 + 3 on Xbone but it's not backwards compact yet.
Started hearing about the new one coming this summer, being able to build colonies and customising your ship, the mako and crew the way you want to, so it got me already.
There is a video somewhere showing in game footage but can't find it, but i heard it's really good.
I know it's EA and all that shit, but I'd rather have another ME game than not one at all.

'Humanoid' =/= 'recoloured human'. The only recoloured human race in Mass Effect are the Asari (which follow the grand tradition of chromatic space babes that goes back forever in pulp sci-fi), while the only non-humanoid aliens that you actually interact with are the Rachni, Elcor and Hanar.
Turians, Krogan, and all the rest are very much humanoid.
