Start with 3 FES or you won't be able to appreciate it after the changes 4 made. In terms of Social Links 4 handles it better. 4 made the simple combat in 3 more simple and I think the combat suffer because of it.

So you would think that having 5 characters would be a good thing, giving you more power and options to deal with encounters. What it actually does is slow down the gameplay, also the game can be beaten with the personas they hand out to you, no fusing needed. At least for the first part of 2. Best story though.
Persona 5 hype dropped so hard after that delay.

Pretty much everything. The combat is slow, bland, and easy. Demon negotiation is repetitive and predictable. Fusion uses consumable items for some reason and is largely superfluous. The dungeons are large, boring, and have a high random encounter rate.
Most NES RPGs I've tried have better gameplay.

Yeah, reccomend the new guy the game that literally has no story except "kill the ugly monsters" for 2/3rds of the game. It's better to start with 4 that involves you in the plot from the start and keeps you interested, then when he's got a feel for the games and the Persona world he can move on to P3.

Wow, you just described P3 plot in a nutshell. P4 starts out with throwing you right into the action and presenting a mystery you have to solve with the murder case. In P3 you join SEES and explore tartarus for no other reason but "we think this place might have the key to stopping the dark hour". You then spend until summer basically just running around killing shadows. The story doesn't really begin untill 2/3rds in when you kill all the big shadows. You are talking out of your ass.
