I loved chrono trigger and loved cross too, no need to be a kiddie and be a fan of one and bash the other. They both compliment each other and their ties are subtle and deep at the same time making cross a game you can play without playing trigger, but if you played trigger then you would love cross story even more.

This game's story was almost as bad as FO3's. The mechanics are only slightly better. The game somehow looks better despite being on PS1. Over all this game is total shit and anybody who likes it it either a retard or blinded by nostalgia. And yes I played this piece of shit when it released and it sucked then.
My main complaint with this game is how incomplete it feels, especially the second disk. It's like Xenogears where you can clearly see where the dev team began to run out of time and budget, and had to start booking it.

Serge died in the original dimension and was saved in the alternate one.
Wazuki(the dad of serge) gets pushed by a storm created by Schala to bring serge in contact with the frozen flame to save his life. He gets possessed by the FATE super computer and becomes Lynx.
The 7 dragons are one dragon split into 7 by FATE to keep them weak and in check. They are at war with the humans and they lost but they manipulate you into believing that FATE is the enemy and you help free and unite them.
