The funny thing is, while Dragon Quest basically cemented this mechanic, you also have tons of examples of people getting mad at you. I was playing Dragon Quest VI today and two NPCs gave me shit for walking into their house.

To be fair, some people do lock their doors. And you use Magic/Ultimate keys to legitimately break int their house.
