Undertale is the most patrician game and the amount of hate the board gives it is proof. It's so dense, everything has so much going on. It's definitely the most cerebral game ever made.

My fuckin' nigga. Sil is such a great roguelike, I love the enemy AI, feats, and crafting system. Also the experience system. Really its a great game.

It's my favorite roguelike at the moment. It really is well-crafted; everything feels like it's there for a reason.

ADOM does not fit those categories, but perhaps for its sheer size, it might be my second favorite.

Well, this used to be my favorite game until /tg/ station went to shit and I lost my waifu.

And no, don't suggest /vg/ please.

Why is it that I like Aurora so much, but can't stand Dwarf Fortress?

I'm curious about this from the /rlg/ pastebin

Should I be familiar with Angband first?

>>322983441
No, not really. It's very much pared-down (in the sense of cutting out bloat, but not depth) from Angband, and feels very much different. The instructions pdf is short, well-written, and very helpful, and basically gives you all you need to know. There's nothing like wiki-diving (unlike ADOM).

I think Sil even has a (fortunately short) tutorial. In short, even if it is your first roguelike, it is very much a good, intuitive one to start with - and has the depth to keep going.
>>
>>322983441
Nah not really. It'd be cool to be familiar with the first age lore of LoTR, but I jumped into Sil without playing Anband at all. Sil has one of the best manuals I've ever seen from a roguelike. It's very easy game to learn because of that.

>>322983836
Sick, thanks anons. Guess it's time I finally read the Silmarillion

IVAN is a very wacky roguelike. One of my favorites, because it basically requires you to think outside the box in order to win.

IVAN seems really cool to me, but the small tiles kind of turn me off. I'd even rather it be ASCII, for readability.

Still, I should give it a chance again.
>>
>>322986050
The tiles are justified by the limb system IVAN's combat uses. You're always hacking off limbs and sending body parts (including your own) all over the map, so it's useful to have a graphical representation of that. The blood/water/goo/acid stains all over the map are really great too. It's really the only roguelike that I would rather play with tiles rather than ascii.
>>
>>322983430
Might be the setting.
I get a massive nerd boner at being able to craft the exact ship I want out of parts that I designed.

Plus compared to DF you have far more control over what your ships and colonies do than over the dwarves, which half the fun there is just seeing what the little drunken idiots do.
>>
>>322982571
isn't easier to just not shitpost when you haven't played the game?

Aurora is one of those games where the dev is literally just making it for himself and his friends.

absolutely based dev

That happened a while ago, he ended up killing me after waking up when I exchanged places with him. I learned to never have a full inventory when grabbing the Silmaril.
>>
>>322981736
Everyone I knew who played this had headaches from it. Still a grand game

Never gave me problems.

It did give me a lot of strange dreams as a kid, though.

>>322993874
Fuck that's a dense wall of text. What's the learning curve like on this game?
>>
>>322993314
Just use DOSBOX; I actually had never played it until a year ago.

I wish more space 4x games had this simple, yet elegant, design.
>>
>>322993943
This screenshot make it look more complicated than what it actually is.
The game has some depth but it's not hard by any means, most of the time it's all about planning, risks and rewards, not difficulty of execution.
>>
>>322993975
Yeah, it's a great game. Many hours were lost to it many years ago.
>>
>>322993314
It does. I got 1&2 from gog last sale and both run fine. However 1 still has the copy protection so you need the sheet with the ships next to you.

There's also a torrent with the gog version on kickass if you want 100% discount.
>>
>>322994206
So what do you do, steal information?
>>
>>322982943
not really, the community is full of redditors and people that ban you for saying nigger
even the /vg/station isnt pure, go on /r/ss13 and you will see several /vg/ nicks, even admins and coders

Awesome. I think I still have the ship sheet somewhere, along with a ton of other outdated copy protection like the paper code wheels a lot of adventure games had.
