So I just picked up the GOTY Edition of this and hadn't played it before. And I'm enjoying it quite a bit. What does /v/ think of Shadows of Mordor?
Also I remember hearing that the map gets quite bigger is this true?

there is a little bit of pushback for it being "easy" but that is because several videos circulate where theres tons of enemies and a maxed out protagonist can endlessly avoid all attacks by pushing one button.
This is true unless you have ranged enemies, or enemies that have learned special abilities that counter some of your moves.
The problem is if you are too good, the bosses don't level up since they have to kill you a few times to get levels just like you do and they stay weaker.
Overall I think it is a descent game.

It's been a while since I played but I do recall the game being piss-easy regardless of how leveled up you were, only difference being it might take longer to kill some enemies.
The nemesis system sounded really cool too, but then you just wreck everything and you have to actively fail to get any deviation out of it.
And don't get me started on that goddamn final "boss."
It's actually pretty fun, but it's so easy it ruins it a little. Just play the game and don't watch or read literally anything about it.

Still fun though. The kill animations are excellent
Poor difficulty aside this is a really good game and certainly one of the most innovative in years, the orc mechanic pushes it far above all other bam ham sort of games.

The map only doubles in size (that is: there are two maps), but at the start of the second map, when you get the ability to brainwash orcs is where the game gets GUD

Yeah it has a lot of those ubisoft elements, like climbing forge towers to get vision of an area and a fast travel point. The nemesis is pretty cool to screw around with for a few hours, I wish more games would expand upon it.

Everyone agrees that the Nemesis system is based and needs to be expanded on in other games.
Storyline is pretty forgettable and also gets pretty "creative" with the Lotr source material.
On an optimization level it was pretty shitty on the ps3, can't speak to other platforms though.
Ultimately it's pretty fun, 8/10.

It's pretty bland as far as stories go, you're a grizzly man who lost his wife and son to orc invasion and now you only live to kill more orcs and sauron higher command and there's a chick that sort of wants to band you but you reject her because you're an empty husk of a man and the old lady tells you to let go of anger but you don't give a shit because anger is all you are now. So it's full of borign cliches and they're all done with not much of an execution.
But on the plus side you develop your own stories with the game's highlight - nemesis system. Like you were killing orcs and you jumped onto a group and misjudged your abilities and got killed by a random orc, this propelled this orc in rancs and now he's an officer you walk around and see this orc again you try to attack him without knowing much about him and turns out your opening move doesn't work against him and he kills you again because of it, so now you're sort of annoyed with that guy and you search info on him and find out only way to beat him is to ride a carabor(sort of big angry dog) but suddenly he pops up because it turns out he's now hunting you and you've got nothing at hand to beat him so you have to run and you're angry at yourself because some shitty orc made you run since you were afraid he may get more immunities if he kills you again, but then one time you find out he's having a feast with his buddies at the camp so you get yourself a carabor and ride there and this faggot is shitting his pants because of your carabor and you finally chop his annoying head off. That's the sort of experience this game may provide.

Shadow of Mordor is one of those games that carry a spark of greatness that a sequel would benefit immensely from. It's just that it approached it through all the wrong angles. Made it a LotR game when no one cared or wanted for there to be one like that and had its endgame focused on being a better fighter when it should've been about being a better manipulator and shadow overlord. It's probably one of the games I want the most to have a sequel in recent years, or better yet, an experimental successor that ditches the Lord of the Rings coat of paint and focuses better on what it does best. Countless games out there let you be a great fighter, very few allow you to be an insidious corrupter and manipulator.

The nemesis system was so busted and pointless. The game is so easy that only one guy every came back, and it was more an annoyance to deal with than some amazing fight. And then, since he was the only one I fought more than once, the climactic final battle with my Nemesis was against this shitter I killed in one hit 15 hours before. Also in the final fight I got infinite combos from killing my troops and spammed executions.

From what I remember of the books, I'm fairly sure Mordor IS supposed to be that dark, it is literally the heart of all evil in Middle-Earth during the timeframe of the game. So at least on that point I can't fault the game.
