The latest trailers have been sort of underwhelming since the devs want to save everything for their March event. I guess that's when their marketing will kick into high gear and we'll see people talking about it positively. FF games become huge regardless.

What's funny is that when people complained that Luna is Mary Sue he suddenly backed down and said Stella was the original Mary Sue even though he earlier had claimed that Stella was too weak and had to be replaced.

We don't have nearly enough footage. Right now it's in that specific "Could be good, I guess" territory that doesn't really get me hype.
I mean, I welcome their decision to have real time combat and an open world which are the reasons why it might be the first FF I'm actually gonna be but otherwise we don't really know much.

No, as a matter of fact. My first console was a N64, which didn't have any, then I had a GameCube, which only had some spinoff title, if I remember correctly and when I got my PS3 I never bothered with 13 because it was generally agreed to be pretty bad.
Should I emulate some of them? I generally tend to lack the patience for games with turn based combat. Only ones I ever really enjoyed were the Paper Mario games.

FFX tends to be the ideal starting FF game. You can always emulate it and see if you like it. The music and atmosphere is as good as it gets although some dialouge can feel a bit forced. The combat is turn-based but generally agreed that it's a really good version of turn-based combat.
