I own a DK2 here, used it for show, it's quite a decent experience, the displays are fucking pixel 640x480 looking bullshit, so you can "tell" that it's not crystal clear, but if you look past it and try to have some fun, it's quite decent, and I'm a picky motherfucker, I hate videogames and have this ULTRA HIGH standard.

The rift2 when you use a controller will make you have motion sickness after a while.

Plugging it into the flight game in UE4 is fun but that shit runs like ass, and if a game isn't 75FPS then it runs like dog shit, it stutters, and lags behind so it's all kinds of fucked up, killing any experience.

But it's a decent experience when it works, I won't play horror games, that shit is just 2 spooky.

I'm seeing 400$ because of the controller mostly, but the games don't add to the cost of the device. More than likely facebook payed a flat sum to push those games out for free on the rift.

It's an xbone controller, they got it from microsoft directly so it won't jack up the price that much, and the reason they put it in is so that every dev making a game for the Rift could assume their users have one.

>>322875639
4k is fucking shit.

I have 4k monitor, it's garbage in windows 10 if you want to run a 1080p monitor next to it, if you fire up the 4k monitor first before the 1080p you won't have REAL issues, if you want to play games get a GTX 970/980 if you want to run things half decent.

I WISH I got https://www.pccasegear.com/products/28275 instead, because the extra hz would have been nicer, and 2500 res is above 1080p and would have looked still great, I might get one this year along side a pascal 3d card.

4k looks nice, don't get me wrong, but if you don't have XFIRE/SLI or a high end card, then you're wasting your cash, because you will have to run everything medium/low if you have a budget pc.
>>
>>322875639

There has been only one NSFW demo for the DK2 that I would actually call "great". The atmosphere is perfect. The model is nice. The animations are smooth. The controls aren't shit. (One of the biggest flaws is that most demos don't give you anything beyond the standard Unity control bindings, so most of the time you can't repositiion the "camera", so you have to move the sensor or your seating position.) It has one of my fetishes. It's great.

These screenshots really don't do it justice at all. In the rift, this thing looks great.

Buying into a GTX 980 TI now, would be fucking stupid, the definition of a moron, the price is $1000+ for 1 card, for 2 cards that's $2000.

$2000 I could spend now, or wait 6 months for pascal, that's 10 times the power with 1 card, even if it costs $2000 I'll be ahead and the fucking card will last another 2 years or till Volta comes out, depends how often upgrading tickles your dick.

ANYONE that invests in a GTX 980 or EXPENSIVE card now has mental issues.

For further explanation.

Say, 1 GTX 980 is 100% power, adding another is +80%, so now you have 180% total power, pascal tech is suppose to be 10 times the power, which is 1000% power compared to a GTX 980.

You gain 820% more power for 1 card than with 2 GTX 980's, EVEN if pascal was twice as powerful than a GTX 980, you're better off with pascal tech because you won't have to deal with SLI BULLSHIT.
>>

You fucking what
>>
>>322877680
http://computers.scorptec.com.au/search#w=GTX%20980

Being australian is suffering, if you were going to buy a GTX 980, get a seahawk so you can overclock.
>>
>>322876824
>going a single card for a gtx 980 is fucking stupid
Yes, yes indeed it is especially when even the 980Ti was later released better perf/dollar than the 980 even currently.

I fell for VR direct mode and "full" DX12 support, was intent on getting a saphire 290X for nearly half the price otherwise.

Still too early to tell whether Nvidia or AMD would be better for VR. Pascal introducing async compute is an omen to bad times ahead for maxwell.

But what's done is done, I hope someone makes a hardware agnostic version of MRS, or nvidia makes it such that it can be enabled regardless whether the game uses gameBorksVR or not.

MRS seems extremely useful for increasing framerate in VR. Would be a shame if it was locked to games using gameWorksVR.

u wot m8?

they stated 10x compute and that is in some special "deep learning" algorithm they tested it on which is extremely biased in their favor.

Compute power on some special algorithm is no performance indicator for gaymen. Wait until benchmarks are out showing performance under practical use.

I think it will be another incremental upgrade, if it is twice the power that would be great but knowing nvidia they will want to milk the goyem for a few more generations since shrinking to the next node is taking longer and longer.

Case in point, 28nm.

16nm is pascal.

With directx 12 and pascal, maybe you might see the sweat off my balls for the higher texture density.

After this, gaming is going to have to "go back" to FUN games, because graphical fidelity is at a peak where it's not going to make a difference.

Oh wait they will make a scene about 8k and 60FPS or other unimportant shit, 60FPS is important though.

>>
>>322879175
8K and higher important for VR though since the quality of looking at a display through lenses is lower than that of a display of equivalent resolution without the optics.

5K per eye is the minimum required, 16k per eye is the limit apparently beyond which you won't see a noticeable difference at max FoV.

Combine foveated rendering and that future doesn't look to distant. Display tech is advancing faster than hardware can keep up with these days.

With monitors the larger and large the resolution the larger the monitor you require at the same viewing distance to notice a difference.

With VR it is similar deal, but you benefit more from large PPI since the screen is right in your face with optics so you don't get eye strain allowing your eyes to focus at a more comfortable distance.

The display wraps around your field of vision which would require more pixels at the same PPI. Can't wait for foveated rendering, at some point an HMD will require less computation power to drive games/programs compared to a monitor with the same pixel density.

At some point when the PPI is high enough that going higher would be indistinguishable monitors will start to feel like a downgrade.

I don't think monitors will be replaced anytime soon, especially in applications where you want more than one person to be able to see the content without blocking their vision or requiring their own special device. Even then we might see AR receiving such widespread adoption that every mother and her unborn child has access to them much like smart phones these days. Shouldn't be impossible to have public content that everyone could connect to and see.

AR IS THE FUTURE
>YES THE OCULUS TOUCH CONTROLLES ARE GONNA BE HUGE
>YOU CAN LITERALLY USE YOUR HANDS AS CONTROLLERS WITH THE VIVE THIS IS THE FUTURE

When will you retards STOP FALLING FOR THIS CRAP AGAIN AND AGAIN? No one wants to wave their arms around to controll their game, no one wants to play their videogames standing upright for anything other than short lived simulators/experiences. The great appeal of these goggles are that they replace exactly the element of gaming that is actually completely interchangable, the monitors.

Once you start dreaming of alternate controlls and augmented reality and horrible touch controllers you are so deep into Kinect terretory that i can literally taste Gate's asshole. Don't get the vive for 200 dollarydoos more than the rift because you like teh premise of AR which you will not use for anything other than 3 tech demos, Don't pick up the stupid oculus touch controlls unless you are the type of autist to actually use it for something creative like live modelling or 3d paintings.

Trust me as someone with the disposable income to own both rift develoopment kits, to have developed with it for several years now, and to have tested the oculus touch controlls and the previous vive model. DON'T BUY INTO THE KINECT MEME-TIER TECHNOLOGY. JUST GET THE HEADSET WITH YOUR PREFERED FOV AND SPECS TO YOUR LIKING. Don't do it because fuckerberg wants your sheckles either, do it because those vr monitors actually work with no delay and perfect tracking. Trust me, those controllers do NOT! And if you honestly trust valvue to push technology so far that a SINGLE NON 3d CAMERA can track your hands better in a 3d space than oculus' hand dildos i honestly want you to be as dissapointed as you are doomed to be.

I honestly fear that the shitty focus on AR and motion controlls is gonna drag VR down with it.
