It's because it came to light that Mike was the one really pulling most of the strings of Cinemassacre and had all the video game knowledge - James was just along for the ride.
James created the character, but it was all Mike's work that made The Nerd The Nerd.

This is actually true, and it shows the most with the AVGN movie. Mike had almost no involvement in the feature. It was co-written with James by Kevin Finn and it shows..
Mike helps James out with the writing and gameplay portions of the AVGN episodes. While some people may not like him, it's impossible to deny how important he is to the AVGN character.
