I really wanted to hate it because of the "Tumblr: The Literal Videogame" beginning, but fuck me - this game is phenomenal.
I'm mostly an RPG player and have never tried visual novels because the concept seemed boring and uninteractive but I am actually considering the game as one of the best I've ever played.
And that finale was pure fucking tears, christ

The game starts slowly and the dialogue is a pain to begin with, but it gets real fucking dark real fucking quick all of a sudden after the first two episodes. The major plottwist at the end of episode 4 and the entirety of episode 5 was completely unexpected, creepy, confusing and amazing. Squarenix did a fantastic job with the writing

First time I've actually said "what the fuck" out loud was that entire section.
It didn't feel like it had any religious themes to it - it seemed more like a final warning that reality couldnt take much more of max's time-fuckery so it just started tearing itself apart.
I'm the type of person that could easily cry into any moment in a game. I've cried playing most JRPG's. However, that ending didn't make me cry worth shit. I was more pissed at it's ending if anything.
It's sad too since I actually enjoyed the first 4 episodes. I was expecting multiple different endings depending on your actions throughout it's entirety. Instead, we got two shitty options to end the series with. I'm definitely not getting Season 2 or anything else they release.

I also enjoyed the game for the most part, but goddamn OP you are going too far. How the fuck was the finale even emotional at all? If this was something like TWD S1, I'd understand. It's not a masterpice, but it's good game where you can see that devs actually cared about stuff (even drugs name are properly used, not just "coke", ffs). But he acted like a little brat, which might correlate with his arrogance but it came off completely childish and ruined whatever immersion or investment I had going into the episode. Using the same machine you have been using, she sent her memories back in two day intervals for 15 years so she could kill a woman (that due to time's fuckery had to die that day no matter what) and has already killed you in the future. She walks in, cuts your friend up with an axe and says pic related to you. From here, she waits 15 years so she can kill you all over again and continue the loop.It's one of my favorite moments in anything ever and was an incredibly cool demonstration of how time works in the setting. Like the guilt from abandoning her best friend after her father died (even though none of it was her fault) warped her a bit and she feels the need to make up to her. Here's a great interview with Ted Bundy, this is the way they should've unfolded Jefferson, a deeply passionate guy whose passion became deeply perverted. A major component of the story is the theme of growing up and finding a mold to fit into, by revealing Jefferson as an insecure person who also tries to fit in with his peers would've made that theme come full circle because in real life you never stop growing, and as the ending is played out it just didn't come across as poignant as it should be, instead it came across as lazy and forced to invoke some sort of emotion out of the player, very cut–and–dried.

Anyway, pacing was kind of shit, mainly the transition between Episode 3 and Episode 4 was very abrupt.
Everyone in the general thread saw the "bae or Bay" choice coming a mile away, and Jefferson being le bad guy is really not that unexpected.
But for some reason I couldn't help but be drawn in by the game; atmosphere or whatever you want to call it I guess. It's heavily flawed, but supposedly DONTNOD wants to do a 2nd season, maybe they'll have learned a little.

I enjoyed it a lot too. Some of the dialogue is really cringy, but I guess that's how some girls talk sometimes. I only wish the puzzles were more challenging and didn't hold the player's hand. That part at the end where you have the find the right code in the bathroom was great, but after a minute or so Max would say "Maybe if I look into the mirror" or something kinda ruined it.
