This is simply not true. I'm not sure why you would think it is unless you've never seen a Jackie Chan film before. He does extravagant stunts but they do shit that is a lot more dangerous.
Look a the OP, for example. That man being thrown onto his back on the floor below is doing something EXTREMELY dangerous, Jackie Chan rarely did comparable stunts.

Every awning he falls through takes away from the impact and then he lands on a pile of soft dirt that also cushions, that guy just straight lands on a hard surface on his back. If the point of impact was even slightly off he's paralyzed or dead.
Let me put it this way, Jackie Chan get's injured when something goes wrong, for a lot of these stunt people they are going to get injured even when everything goes right, they just have to suck it up.

No, the myth is that that only happens to Jackie Chan and that he does shit that no normal stuntman would do.
They play up the "he does his own stunts" shit to sell the star. It's marketing, nothing more.
Don't construe this as attacking Jackie Chan, he's a very talented guy, bu the notion that he's the world's greatest stuntman or something is complete bullshit. A lot of his inspiration comes from the old slapstick actors who also "did their own stunts".
