You have to understand that a prick like this that thinks of people barely surviving in a hostile wasteland as "savages" isn't really a sympathetic guy. And he had the nerve, the fucking nerve, to say they were the future of the commonwealth. Their saviors.

Fuck him and the institute.

Why is the Institute focused on the whole synth thing and not something more obviously useful like space travel? They have functional teleportation. Why couldn't they expand that into setting up a base on Mars or something and eventually search for something more earthlike?

Jason Bright and his cult were a bunch of crazies but they had the right idea.

It's the wording that makes hi ma dick, the already having mourned the loss of someone he never knew was an interesting analogue to Nate still grieving.

>>322824965
It seems like just about every project that wasn't synth related was abandoned. The teleporter could probably been improved over time. It wouldn't be much of a stretch to reach the moon in the foreseeable future at least. They'd send Synths to do the building and send things up piece by piece.

Their weapons look like a result of advanced polymer technology development.

They weren't going for power, but for resource efficiency in weapon production.

>>
>>322837531
Not really. His internal thoughts lead him to believe correctly that "the old man" is setting him up to die to tie up loose ends.

So then he decided to do exactly what the old man wants and promptly gets himself killed. No other way around it because Bethesda and their "destiny" shit I guess.

Instead of making Count Chocula immortal I think it would have been better if he was some clone they keep remaking and using all the time any time he fails a mission or dies, etc. Could have made it so the one you encounter later is a completely different one from the one that shot your spouse, so you could go for revenge if you want but you would be killing someone who didn't do it. Would have fit in nicely with the whole "definition of humanity" shit that Beth was trying to incompetently shove into the game. Oh well.

Then again, why would anyone think Beth knows jack fucking shit about writing half decent villains. I mean fuck, just look at goddamn Col Autumn in FO3.
>>

Why is Shaun even the director?

He's nothing more than a DNA sample to the Institute. He isn't some wunderkind or something, and he had nothing to do with the organic synth program in the first place. "The Old Man" is the one who ordered the raid on Vault 111 to obtain the samples for synth production, some unnamed director from 60 years before the gameplay occurs I suppose.

Does Beth always have to go with the cliche? Or did they actually fuck up their writing yet again with a massive plothole? Is Shaun supposed to be "The Old Man"?

I assume that scene that takes place in Kellogg's house in Diamond City takes place very recently and that the Shaun with him was synth Shau since the Courser is giving him orders to kill Virgil, and presumably he didn't put that mission off for decades.

Right, time to dig in.

Nick Valentine is an early generation Synth with the implanted memories of a policeman from the pre-war era.

His companion quest involves solving a 210 year old crime by tracking down the criminal who killed his fiance. The policeman's fiance from 210 years ago, no one related to present day Synth Nick. Now surely you think there is no real case here, its been 210 damned years.

Luckily, the criminal mastermind from 210 years ago has a bunker that is about two minutes away from the fiance murder he committed long ago. And as luck would have it, the criminal mastermind BECAME A FUCKING GHOUL BEFORE THE GREAT WAR EVEN OCCURRED

AND HAS BEEN CHILLING OUT IN HIS BUNKER FOR 210 YEARS. TWO MINUTES AWAY FROM WHERE HE KILLED THE FIANCE.

But wait, lets make this even more contrived. The door to the bunker is locked and you need the key code. The criminal mastermind made a series of tapes detailing his nefarious deeds, and each tape has a number corresponding to the code for his bunker.

To find these tapes, you have to go to different police stations around Boston, look up the evidence manifests on police computers, and go out into the wasteland to find each tape. Luckily, every single tape is fully intact after 210 years, all the police stations and police computers are fully intact, and every evidence log is perfectly accurate to lead you to every tape laying about in perfect condition. So you gather all the tapes, get all the numbers, enter the bunker, and blast the ghoul criminal away.

Two hundred and ten fucking years after the crime. All this contrived mess to give Synth Nick some forced closure.

Are you fucking bullshitting me Bethesda?
>>

Okay, I recently finished the game and was getting so frustrated with the shitty dialogue choices while talking to institute members so I didn't even bother talking to everyone.

Why were synths the future of humanity? What made making ultra-realistic human impersonating robots the key to humanity's future? What was their goal? What was going on with the super mutant tanks (never saw it in game, just saw an image)?

Lore Rape and inconsistencies aside, they dropped the ball on the Institute. The game builds it up and it goes into a whole different direction. Ruins the mood and pacing. I was ready to finish the game and find Shaun but just got a bunch of short "quests" delaying the inevitable fight against them.

>>
>>322867405

If someone is dedicated enough to make realistic nude bodies, then making SPECIAL the way it's meant to be probably shouldn't be too hard unless it requires rewriting every character
>>
>>322825973
That's probably because of Shaun.
Also, the Institute probably planned on eventually replacing all humans with synths, and then ruling over them as overlords.
>>
>>322867539
....fair enough. It's kinda hard to refute that point.
>>
>>322867671

Well, I'd be foolish to just assume tweaking the mechanics of a character is as simple as reskinning them. But still yea, if someone has the dedication to make detailed content of the adult nature, surely there's plenty of others more into reworking the internal aspects of NPCs

>>
>>322868308
>>322868356
I still find it strange how, last time I went on a massive rampage and killed everyone in the institute, I didn't find a single Synth Component among any of the Coursers or the normal synths.

It had me wondering if sometimes the Institute forgets who is what.
>>
>>322868356
Where did you find cow synths ?

I think beth's scripting just made synth spies appear on random population however their code logic ended up including ghouls from the population.

Logically story wise, why the fuck would institute make ghouls ? haha.

Programing/development wise, i felt like they rushed the game out.
>>
>>322868046

Do they have to be built until I can place objects anymore? All my settlements have a shitload of people, generators but also like 300+ in defense with 932481 turrets.
>>
>>322869789
you need more turrets
>>
>>322869789
I've put in about 50 hours and had exactly 3 instances of a settlement being attacked. Once, I fast traveled to that spot and then nothing happened except the settlers went to sleep. The second time, the tooltip popped up and then immediately cleared, as if I had completed the objective. And the final time like 5-6 Raiders showed up with no warning.

I don't know what causes it.
>>
>>322869789
One time I got attacked by mole rats at the gas station.
I'm suprised it doesn't happen more often since there are like 20 totally unguarded settlements out there. Never bothered with security since it says they want you to have as much rating as food + water and that would mean just stacking 10 turrets on top of each other or just deleting most of the default resources. Both are totally stupid.
>>
>>322869984
>>322869789
Settlements are only attacked if theyre vulnerable, or have less defense than food or water combined.

low defense helps, but high defense also can sometimes not help too.

Greygarden was my "bastion of science and agriculture" and basically had a ziggurat built around it loaded up with a silly ammount of heavy laser turrets.

I got a notification that greygarden was under attack and I guess a couple of behemoths hit the place because when I went there everything was broken and all the robots were dead.

Meanwhile at the county crossing I happened to make it there and had to fight off 5 waves of gunners while my two residents hid out under their beds or something...was interesting to say the least.
