Monster Hunter thread? Monster Hunter thread.
What are you guys hunting? What goals are you trying to complete? I just got back into the swing of things after a lengthy break. Knocked down a Jaggi for practice and to my surprise, I still remember remember my weapon combos. Also hunted a Zinogre because it's always fun fighting one.
I need to do a major inventory check on my weapons and armor to figure out what I have and see what I can make to advance some weapon paths and complete some armor sets.
Trying to find rooms to grind dash extracts either directly through gyp or by fighting frenzied monsters or the magalas and using frenzy crystals.
I'm a special crowned G rank, ask me anything if you need help because I absolutely love monster hunter PS I'm gonna be dumping a couple gifs

I've been learning hbg. It's going pretty well. Some of the monsters can fucking wreck your shit though. I literally cannot fight tigrex

A magical game of pure destruction and awesome gameplay
I love me some Charge Blade, but I haven't gotten Guard Pointing down yet. I've been using them so much I'm getting curious about switching over to another type that I'm not so good at, like Lance or Gunlance. What are some tips for learning lance?

poor man's dark souls

I heard if you hold R and X when a monster is about to attack you, you could Riposte and knock it down on its ass and I highly recommend a sleep element also because the longer the Lance stays in the monster, the more damage it does causing more sleep effect

They're not even that similar though.

Go into the options and swap the start and special attack buttons, it'll map the sword-to-axe GP to the start button for easier access
>>322814873
Bro for example, the staff goes in the monster for 3 seconds during an attack, it's doing 3 seconds worth of element and raw damage on the enemy, sorry if I couldn't make it that clear

I mean the Lance
>>322814873
Or just hit X then R+X just before the monster's attack reaches you, or tap the button that is usually kick when your weapon isn't drawn.
>>322815162
But status effects only have a 1/3 chance of being applied per hit. I has nothing to do with how long the hit takes.
Element on the other hand is applied every hit, but has nothing to do with time.
>>322815162
Are you talking about the charging attack or something, every lance poke only hits once besides the new one in X that no one likes
And even more than that, there's not many weapons that benefit from sleep on their own, and trying to properly use sleep weapons in an uncoordinated room is damn near impossible

It changes alot for me though

Wait, what changes alot?

I'm at HR6 online I think - what should my defenses be around so I won't be auto-carted when a monster breathes on me? My strongest armor set offers around 220ish def.
I recall someone saying that Jaggi S would carry me a great way but I don't know if it's still viable.
Is it feasible to try to fish out guard points when you're right up in a monster's junk slappin' its shit, most of the time I get them I just happened to set one up at the right time when the monster started its attack animation.
>>322816643
Are you trying to ask if you can do guard points intentionally and not on accident
Because the answer is yes
Another dumb as rocks question, are either of the sleep and paralysis status effects useful or only good for certain situations?
I've got a number of poison weapons because I noticed it helps me weaken the target a lot, but when I've used sleep or paralysis it takes much longer to effect a monster and doesn't quite help me lay damage down on a monster as much as poison does.
>>322818764
I don't know if it's truly effective, but I love my paralysis longsword. It's a good way to get in that extra damage whenever it procs. It's even better if it decides to proc after a mount or before a monster pulls off a big attack.

Sleep causes the first hit to awaken a monster to do double damage, or triple damage if the first hit is from a bomb
Getting the most out of sleep requires a somewhat particular setup and other people to place more bombs or land stronger wakeup hits, so it's not especially useful for most solo players
Most non-poison status weapons tend to be weak in both raw and sharpness, so besides certain exceptions paralysis and sleep weapons only really shine in groups
That said if you're looking to play pure status support nothing beats a light bowgun
