I like this game because it introduced me to Cry of the Banshee by Brocas Helm. It's worth playing Brutal Legend just for the soundtrack.
I actually really enjoyed Brutal Legends back in the day as well.
It was underrated due to misleading advertising. People expected a slasher in a metal world, they got a weird ass RTS. Also campaign just kinda ends abruptly, it's like the whole last third of the game is missing.

This game was only great to watch. Its gameplay was janky as hell.
Watching a lets play of this will literally give you a more enjoyable experience of the game then playing it, and thats just wrong.
Worth watching though, I will give you that.

I replayed this game at least 5 times. Played the shit out of multi, sadly dead. My #1 game of all times. I would die a happy man if sequel would happen and wouldnt be half finished like first game. Also dont remove rts sections, one of reasons i love it so much.

The hacky slash and driving bits are fun but they break it up by barely having hack n slash bits and having long boring rts parts.

The shallow RTS gameplay is terrible. Such a shame because the world, characters and overall theme of the game are great, the gameplay should've been a hack and slash as it was advertised, also that's a style of game that consoles can handle well.

Powerful nostalgia. That was my first big story-driven RPG. It follows plenty of fantasy tropes looking back on it now, but it was still a wild ride.
That aside, I think they had a lot of fun coming up with new environments. Underwater labs, a ghost ship, a forgotten city maintained by robots, etc.

I thought it did its job for the most part. My only gameplay complaint that I recall was that it was hard to use any RTS strategy outside of rushing with whatever units were available, and that driving could be frustrating during high octane escape sequences.
