Call me old fashioned, but the Marine dialogue was fantastic and added charm to the older games. Where'd their humor go?

Reach tried to set a more grim tone, but that was a special case. I'm not sure why 343i didn't put funny marine chatter back into Halo 4 and 5

not that im a fan of halo 5 but in the campaign you can find a grunt having a conversation with an elite talking about how he fought against the "demon" and isn't afraid of him.
It blew my mind back then in halo 1 when you killed the elite and all the grunts that were with him started panicking and saying things like "we're screwed!"
