How is this burying the Vive in PR? I'm not a backer, so this is completely irrelevant to me. I don't give a flying fuck what backers are getting, and I doubt anyone else does either. Why would they?
And this isn't Oculus being "nice." As you said, this is simply good PR on their part while simultaneously giving themselves a larger install base of their more recent and vastly superior hardware.

Uhh, CV1 has been demo'd, they aren't changing anything major. Spec wise it's the same as CB, they just improved ergonomics and optics. They likely aren't working much on hardware anymore. It's all software now to get ready for launch.
Vive probably isn't going to change much either. Spec wise it's the same, just with different optics which is supposed to be slightly worse. Not sure how the new Pre is ergonomics wise.
