I've been playing TF2 since 2009 (Yeah I still enjoy it honestly) and in all those years I mainly just play Spy/Demo/Soldier and Engineer depending on our situation, never touched Scout.
Been playing with him past couple of days and I'm actually very good with him, I feel bad I never gave him a chance before, is there anything better than the default scattergun honestly?
>>
Nope.

If you can aim well, the FAN and Soda Popper can work as fun alternatives, but what you'll be switching mostly is your secondary (to Crit-o-Cola, Bonk, Milk, whatever's handy at the time).

Here's my proof.
What are some other general good things to keep in mind while annoying folks as Scout?
Hes one of those classes like Sniper, by that I mean I see tons and tons of folks pick him but very RARELY you will come across someone playing 1 of those 2 and actually be really fucking good.
>>
>>322740086
Scatter gun is the best. Short stop is good but the extra push vulnerability will screw you over on maps where you can be pushed off of ledges.
>>
>>322740223
>>322740302
What do you guys recommend for his secondary items?
Bonking sentries sounds fun.
>>
>>322740668
I use the Pistol. It's a good combo with the scattergun because you can pick off people if they try running away after using the scatter.
>>
>TF2
>People are not shitposting
You make me proud, /v/
As a tf2 newfag from the 2011, how do I actually get good aim? Any class I struggle to consistently hit with. I don't touch sniper at all, soldier I need to rely on the splash damage, heavy is fun but is very vulnerable despite his health, medic is okayish fun, scout I need to kiss the enemy to hit point-blank, pyro is good since the flamethrower cone will ensure a hit if you're in range, engie's sentries will do most of the dirty work, demo's splash damage is good and all.

However, I do decent-to-pretty-gud with arcing projectiles- huntsman, grenade launchers, flare guns... I don't understand.

Have you tried playing with different sensitivities?
Do you panic when a enemy is in front of you?
>>
You can't go wrong with the vanilla loadout.
Experiment with other weapons if you want some fun.
>>
How does someone play a fucking game that long and never try out all the characters and use them for a while?

How?

How?

How in the fuck did you do that?

Fuck you, I have no idea why your idiocy has made me so mad, but fuck you.
>>
>>322742282
>Tfw playing scout and somehow actually hitting people
My aim gets erratic as fuck but I still manage to get them as I'm zooming around with the BBB. I use a 2.25 sens
>>
>>322742553
Didn't they make the BBB useless? you still enjoy using it?
>>
>>322742282
I tried all sensitivites possible, and I feel more comfortable with a higher one.
And I think the panic thing might be an issue- The closer I am of a target the more I want to kill it quickly with little harm to myself, which ends up with me dying because I can't aim.
Against bots and MvM however... I land most shots.
I DON"T GET IT
>>
>>322740086
You wont hit the skill ceiling for scout until you have atleast 200-250 hours using him. Scattergun/Pistol/Bat are best unless your pretty confident with the Boston Basher.
I also like to use the Cleaver/Sandman combo to piss people off.
>>
>>322742753

You know a bot's movement pattern and instinctively know where they are going to end up, so your aim isn't gonna falter as much.

Against an average to competent human player, it's not as simple. Humans don't generally move on a linear path NO MATTER WHAT until something actually physically stops them.
>>
>>322742694
Not that guy but I wish they didnt nerf the BBB. It was so fucking fun to use and all round not that OP, albeit the only people that would hit you actually knew what they were doing. You could literally run circles around retards and remain at full health.

It is pretty damn useless now, I didnt mind not being able to jump with it but now heavies that sit on the other side of the map can nullify the bloody thing so theres no point using it. It was definetely on the same level as the scattergun for me on release, despite the 2 less shots.
>>
>>322742896
So I should ditch bot training and try to git gud on pubs? By no means I want to be very best that there ever was, but it pains me my accuracy is so shit and could be better. Tried muscle memory, it improved a bit. Sniper's rifle is my nightmare weapon, since I hate scopes. the Classic was a god-send for me and I can actually score headshots I wouldn't score with a scope.

You need to remain clam and keep it moving, try to circle around the enemy and take your time to make sure you actually hits every time you shoot.
You're already faster than everyone, try to remain calm because they are also freaking out because of your speed. it might sound ilke bullshit but at least give it a though.

I can't remember if tf2 can let you hold down the fire button to fire automatically but do it. Don't worry about anything other then shooting the other guy down and focusing on your aim

Whenever I use Spy, I never get used to how he should be played. I usually resort to counter spying or just straight up gunfighting.

Maybe I'm just not patient enough.
>>
Nothing is better than the scattergun for killing and all-around excellence, but the FaN is ridiculously fun to fuck around with. I think it's hilarious watching a Heavy getting flung 50000 miles off the cart and then getting on the knockback of a sentry.
>>
>>322742753
If you watch a lot of "pro" scouts, they do quite a bit of aimless strafing. Basically, it's using your own or your opponent's movement to help aim for you rather than relying entirely on your mouse. With a lower sensitivity, you can make micro-adjustments to stay on target.

Of course, I'm not saying you should entirely rely on strafe aiming. That'll get you destroyed by people who know how to play. However, a combination of the two and using it when the situation calls for it is what separates players.
>>
>>322744880
I dont play spy as it should be. I never backstab and only use the Ambassador. I have 24000 kills with it...
>>
>>322740223
For secondaries, here's my opinion:
I personally don't use the pistol for combat much outside of trying to pick at sentries out of their range, which is not often enough.

So I use the winger. Hear me out for one moment:
I use it for mobility and getting in hard to reach spots that I couldn't reach without having to rely on the FaN. So I can jump around and get from one area to the next easier, since, and I'm sure people will tell me I should be using it more, I don't use the pistol much.
>>
>>322745026
I dont really use the pistol much myself as I find it relies way too heavily on RNG at medium distances. The main advantage of the winger to me is that It'll catch snipers off guard when they see your jump. It's also handy against soldiers but your fucked if they send you into the air on your second jump.
>>
>>322745242
As I said, I don't use it combatively, but, as mobility.
Just to use to get around the map quicker or to places I can't get to with stock. It really helps to be able to reach that ledge that's JUST out of reach with stock, but with the winger, you can make it and shave so much time and effort and even get to places you couldn't normally get to as scout without FaN jumping and what not.

I unfortunately can't think of any examples right now. But I'm sure you probably can imagine a few in your head. A somewhat useless example would be the roof of the covered bridge on 2fort from the ground in case you fall off. You can do it if you have a small ledge to stand on, like one of the barrels next to the base with the winger. An impossible jump without it unless you use the FaN.
>>
>>322744880
Spy's original objective was to backstab important targets, such as Medics, specially threatening Snipers, disable Engie's buildings, all while shrouded in disguises, cloaks, and trickery.
Today, spies will just kill anyone in range of the knife, be it an easy soldier who would get killed nonetheless.
I'm impressed you actually use your revolver though. Most spies will resort to butterknifing
>>
>>322744880
Had the same problem, mostly played soldier and was always way too aggressive. Spy doesn't really rely that much on skill and reflexes, tactic and watching the flow of the enemy team is more important.

I have many hours as Spy.
When I'm Spy first thing I do is scout for engineers and plan for each one of them.
Teleporters, Dispensers, etc. you must become their enemy and destroy anything that gets them where they need to be faster.
I also equally do the same to Medics, you have to take out those fuckers quick too.

He'll move on to the next game that catches his attention.
He's got a decent enough following that he can probably get away with just being an average twitch streamer if it comes down to it.
Alternatively he goes back to college like he originally planned, team leading at the highest level of a competitive game is one of those rare vidya related things I think you can safely put on your resume.

Don't start an altercation until you're out of everyone's line of sight.
Never fight more than one enemy at a time, unless you know for sure you can off them both in three shots.

Basically, play him like a Spy, but you use speed and high ground as an advantage. Scouts raw damage output is way better, making him more of a hybrid pick/offense class than a pure pick class.

>>322740668
If you don't want to use the stock pistol but still want to help your team, go mad milk. The winger is really fucking good if you have decent map knowledge.

Scout is literally the strongest class the game at the moment. Only thing that could possibly compete against a scout who hits every shot is a sniper who hits every headshot. But that skill ceilings are pretty much unobtainable, even at top level comp, where as a scout hitting 90% shots is doable.

Way to completely ignore what I said. The degreaser nerf isn't that big of an issue until you look at flares. Prior to the buff the shotgun and flare were considered about equal, now everyones dropping the flare for the shotgun because it's much more difficult to hit faster moving targets with it and you can't sneak in flare shots mid fight like you could before. You have to commit to one or the other.

Mostly it's just because that's what the class is called, has been since QWTF. They just went with that design for him in TF2, and also decided he liked baseball, which was apparently always a big part of his design (note the baseball uniform trousers in >>322743328, although in that concept he's still got combat boots instead of the socks and trainers he wound up with).

People will still run flares because it's great at long range harass and potentially finishing, something that the Pyro shouldn't really be able to do in the first place as a close range ambush class. You can still get quick flares in with the degreaser, I don't know where this "puff n sting is ruined" meme came from. Pyro is better than ever if you're playing him the way he was meant to be played.

No fucking way in hell.
The only thing you should change as Scout is the melee weapon, and that should be depending on what kind of game you are playing.
In comp, they use the Boston Basher, for when the Scout is alone with a Medic he can self-harm with it to build uber quicker.
Generally I prefer to use Sandman / Atomizer / stock for normal play.

The pistol and scattergun are both far too valuable and useful to switch out; NEVER forsake your pistol. If you run out of ammo on your scatter, always switch to your pistol to finish the target off. It absolutely fucking wrecks stuff if you can aim with it.

Being able to win fights against soldiers and scouts is far more important than lighting up a sniper occasionally which doesn't really matter anymore with the cozy camper buff.
>Pyro is better than ever if you're playing him the way he was meant to be played.
What? Running at people with the flamethrower? Even with the buff phlog is still shit against any team higher than iron and it leaves the combo classes at a huge disadvantage without airblast to protect them.

It's always the people who have never actually tried playing pyro who complain about him the most, like b4nny who couldn't even do well in a pub with him. Go play against some good soldiers and scouts first before you start complaining about how easy the class is.

The seal didn't hear him surface, instantly turn around and lightly tap the polar bear causing him to scream in agony and fall over dead, though.

>flaring scouts is hard
If soldiers and demos can land directs on scouts a pyro can land a flare on one too, quit being bad.
>cozy camper buff
The regen rate drops to less than it was pre-buff whenever they take damage, it's fucking trash unless you run around not getting hit for like 10 seconds
>running at people with the flamethrower

I don't know why you're so quick to admit you have no idea what you're talking about and are really bad at the game as well

The seal is a distracted F2P heavy.

It's hard out there for a Spy these days.

So uh, who's the absolute most mediocre class?

I pick Engineer.

>If soldiers and demos can land directs on scouts pyros can too
What the hell are you on about? They just shoot the floor, pyro doesn't have that option and he doesnt have splash to use as area denial. The only time directs are needed is when they're above them which is when scouts regularly shit on them, so you're only proving my point.
>whenever they take damage
You still don't flinch which is what matters and the extra health after means you can skip getting a health kit or wasting the medics time.
>A M B U S H
Why do you idiots keep spouting this retarded argument? Every class benefits from ambushing not just pyro. If you want to play ambush tactics there's no reason not to play something like scout or soldier which are better in pyro in every category. Hell pyro isn't even that good at it, he can't flank or reposition quickly, afterburn isn't reliable, he has extremely short range, and he has no good burst damage options.

Spies have gotten pretty retardedly strong. I can just run around and waving my ambassador at people getting headshots without even trying and then just activating the dead ringer as a get out of jail free card with 70% damage reduction+scout speed. It's like Valve doesn't even want me to try to be stealthy
>>
>>322756735
Stop using the Dead Ringer anon.
>>
>>322757384
I actually don't use either of those anymore because they are so fucking easy mode. Ambassador just turns the sneaky spy into the sniper and the dead ringer just makes the little cunt invincible
>>
>>322757887
People underestimate the stock revolver or the Diamondback. Hell, if you're a good spy the Diamondback is a straight buff.

Fucking Dead Nigger bullshit.

Did they actually buff it with a speed boost after faking death? Because holy fucking retardation.

Call me every name in the book, but as a Pyro the Dead Ringer was the worst crutch in the game and the biggest pile of bullshit. They at least removed the, "Pick up ammo while still cloaked and immediately double how long you can have a personal pocket uber and survive two overhealed Heavies worth the damage" shit, right?

I'm not sure, I'll test it for you.
