I have studies in sociology and psychology.
The main reason that people like that anon take refuge behind fictional characters like that is insecurity caused by being ugly AF, having bad acne, being obesem etc and social communication issues caused by speech impediment conditions, shyness and such.
This leds the person into being socially secluded and escape interactions with other people, specially people from the opposite gender since they are harder to relate.
The person shifts the attention of their sex drive into fictional characters, the main reason being that they cannot judge them and that interaction is non existant, therefore its used as a form of escapism.
If this condition goes untreated in a long period of time often leads to suicide since the individual realizes they will not be able to adjust to society and opts for a way out.
