Only thing I like about TVs over monitors is that they usually have superior viewing angles.

A monitor just shows a picture. If you have the home theatre system to back it up, a great monitor is superior to a TV.

TV can be used without the sound system and external tuners, making it superior for low end low maintenance setups.

The reason he told you to go back to /vr/ is because only fucking grandpas think input lag is an issue for modern TVs, and by modern TVs I mean the last 5 to TEN years

Any even cheap ass new HDTV has on average only 10ms more delay than a monitor.

And this doesn't even bring up the point on how stupid this meme was to begin with, even with older TVs.

>>
>>322718534
estimated signal processing lag 1.05ms, the other 4.45ms is pixel response time yeah but that review site didn't break it down between display and signal processing lag so I kept them together to be comparable values.
>>
>>322719080
http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/e-series-2015?uxtv=97b6
>Input Lag: 29.5 ms
Response time determines how much blurring/trailing there is, not how much delay there is(well not as much at least).
>>
>>322699080
This.
>>
>>322719406
response time was 14.6ms, under the motion blur section..
so 29.5ms - response time is 14.9ms input lag.
>>
Monitor for PC TV for consoles. Like everyone does. Monitors might be better even for consoles like with input lag but they void the whole muh couch part of consoles and consolefags don't notice any of the downsides anyway.

Though TVs right now are so obsessed with the physical size of the things you just get larger pixels unless you buy a 4k TV, and if you do that you have nothing to play or watch on it that's 4k unless you have a PC hooked to it.

I'm getting a 144Hz monitor soon. Can't wait to see the difference. They're good even if you're not reaching 144Hz aren't they? I think I read they lower screen tearing. Not to mention not being capped at 60 fps visually.
>>

Now, I have a 55 inch OLED TV with an amazing image for movies, an ASUS PG279Q 165hz IPS 1440 Gsync monitor for games, and another 40 inch 4k Phillips VA monitor with amazing contrast for photo and video editing.

CRT is trash for broke hipsters.

Can't wait until they all fucking break so I can stop hearing you fucking fedora man children kissing CRT's ass constantly.
>>
>>322721946
Well monitors don't come in 60+ inch versions, at least those that cater to consumers, and consolefags aren't going to willingly play on a small screen even if it's better in every other way. I don't notice input lag in general, even with vsync, so even if I tried playing games on a TV I probably wouldn't notice it while playing normally.

They are objectively better. That's definitely true. That said, they are hideously expensive and will get a lot cheaper very quickly. If you've got the cash then sure, but you'd need to have so much money that it literally doesn't matter to justify spending that much. They also only come in curved variety in 55" as far as I'm aware, so top kek to that. Allegedly they have shorter lifespans too.

Basically, you could get a 75" LED TV for the price of a 55" OLED, and not just a shitty offbrand 75" either.

I hope you calibrated it.

They're fantastic televisions, but expensive.

Confirmed for not knowing any of the advantages CRTs have over LCD and Plasma.
>>
>>322727446
Tell that to my parents. I tried talking them out of it, and honestly to me even 1080p content (though TV isn't even 1080p, I'm mostly talking about bluray) looks fine. Watching TV it does look somewhat bad though but like I said, they basically walked into the store, asked for the best, and bought what the guy said.

It depends on a lot of things, what you're planning to play, how you're planning to play it, your hardware, preferred refresh rate, etc. I have two lcd monitor's and a 40inch samsung mounted on the wall above it hooked to my pc via HDMI, i sit about 2 1/2 feet from it and can barely make out the difference in quality between my monitor and tv with things like text, with games and movies it's not noticeable. You're not likely to notice a significant difference if you're buying a quality tv and using the right cable. Quality monitors tend to cost substantially less than quality tvs though, especially as the size increases. With TVs you also have to pay close attention to the refresh rates.
>>
>>322705083
Yes.

In fact, PC/Wii U/PS4/XBOne should be played on an AH-IPS monitor with sub 8ms input lag.

Anything older should be played on an HD CRT TV or monitor.
>>
>>322714293
I had this really old (early to mid 2000s old) 1080p Japanese LCD TV for some reason and she doesn't use anymore. What I did was I set it up as a monitor for my PC just to test it and the input lag was one of the worsr I have ever experienced. I could really feel it because the discrepamcy between moving the mouse and the cursor on the monitor actually moving was very noticeable.

I'm a film guy foremost so I already have a calibrated 55 inch vt60 (one of the last great plasmas), but I want to upgrade to 65 inch. I DON'T want oled because I don't care about 4k meme and they have trouble with motion resolution for content under 60fps such as film. Then, the colors are worse than the vt60.

The only thing slightly better is the black levels, but my vt60 has incredible black levels that are as deep as you can go without shutting off pixels so i don't care.

Personally, I think that monitor is better, but I myself have never had that option, its either been TV or nothing, because I'm not gonna go out and purchase a monitor for minor changes, especially when I have a perfectly good TV in the living room.

Depends on your setup. I decided to go with a TV so I wouldn't have to buy a bunch of adapters in order to separate audio/video inputs and degrade signal quality by increasing impedance.

In terms of specs... That's hard to say.
They both cater to groups with different interests. Neither one is particularly superior over the other.

You'll find shit products on both sides, and of course, good products are going to be good.

Difficult to say much more than that, as they're pretty much the same. Modern TVs are pretty good, same could be said of modern monitors. Whether you get more out of it depends on what you expected going in.

>playing PC
Use a monitor

>playing console
Use a tv

There is no other answer. No game on consoles require twitchy fast response times. Until they make an affordable monitor that is the same size as my 50" TV, I'll keep using it for my console games and keep my 4K monitor for my PC.

I hope the 48fps meme dies with the Hobbit, what a fucking shit idea that was. It was like watching a made-for-tv movie when I saw it at the cinema, it was far better watching it at home at 24fps.

That's actually true, OLEDs wear with use. If you stumble into a phone store, look at one of those high-end Samsung demo units with OLED screens, it'll most likely have ungodly burn-in issues
