Play as a wizard. Playing as a melee or ranged class is just boring in MW. As a wizard you can levitate at supersonic speeds, summon hordes to fight for you etc.

When you get reading and immerse yourself in the game world. It's old school in a lot of ways, more comparable to some 90's wrpgs with the pacing, you have to explore to find the fun but there really is a lot of shit out there if you look, many people have beaten the game and missed entire factions. Unfortunately I can't list shit to make an argument without spoiling things for you and ruining the point of trying to convince people to explore. Just don't come inexpecting Oblivion with shitty grafics.

I'm sorry anon. Horrific level scaling, shit environmental variety, daedric gates are basically the lost izalith of the TES series - a chore to get through along with being an eyesore. Terrible character models, horrific bloom, boring main quest, only one decent city, fast travel being unlocked before you even reach the city, worse combat than Skyrim without the rpg mechanics of Morrowind to follow back on, gutted spellcastin etc. Etc.

Oh also it still has the quest marker bullshit that plagued Skyrim, the retarded speech minigame, and the dungeon variety is the worst in the series. Amor and weapon smithing is also shit. Oblivion is objectively the worst modern TES and the only people who think otherwise are 13 year Olds who played it on their 360s as their first RPG.

Legitimately it takes time. You definitely should install some mods to make it more palatable for one used to modern vidya, but beyond that it really comes with how much imagination you have.
Take the game in small bites until you get a bit higher level. By that time, you won't get shrekt by everything. Then just, explore. Get lost in the game. Read lore-books. Roleplay a little yourself. Something that I do to get immersed is listen to different music; as much as I adore Jeremy Soule's OST, it does get old after 50 hours of play.

It really nails the atmosphere while still being a little more dynamic. I was walking through the Ashlands while a song from it was playing and I got chills all over my body.
It's not a meme game. It really is fantastic imo, and I only got into it about a year ago. I still haven't gotten tired of it. But it really depends on what you hope to get from it, because the combat never gets good. But you do get stronger and you feel better and if you're immersed in the world then it gives me a 10/10 sense of fun.
