Its a cute game, but filled with this kinda shit later on. its really cringey.
The second one is MUCH better, and more subtle with its references, I'm really enjoying it.

It's got a great, comfy atmosphere, but basically everything else sucks. Bad framerate (on ps4 at least) shitty combat, story is ok, kinda cute.
But the platforming. There is no jump button in this game. You walk towards something that the game allows you to platform, and it jumps for you. The most platforming you'll do is jump from a pegs sticking out of water, and once you're on a peg, you point your thumb stick at the next peg. That's fucking it.
Honestly, if this game had actual platforming I'd think it wasn't half bad, but that really killed it for me.

20+ hours beyond the first, and a real story. Its also more varried with its references, Metal gear, Layton, Castlevania, Breath of fire, etc. Its not all generic nintendo/final fantasy like the first.

I didnt mind it, but the useage of Phoenix down, the Chobokos, and the Zephyros/Sephiroth parodies were way too much, they needed to be dialed back, the game basically became FF7 at the end, no variations or tweaks.

They managed to take a contemporary take on Pandora's Box and make it boring. Articulating why a game is so fucking boring is more work then it seems, since games themselves take hours to get to that point.
It's that you spend the game firing the same shitty guns at the same shitty enemies in environments right at home in any modern FPS. The novelty of the mythological creates - when you're not just fighting generic soldier mooks - falls through fast.
And then I fell through the endgame elevator and couldn't complete the damn game anyway.

Also maps were pretty unbalanced, generally favouring defence. And even further biased towards Resistance on defence.
That first junkyard map where you have to plant the bomb on the door is ridiculously hard considering all the vantage points defence had
