its good. people use the term "dmc combat" too much, it isn't really like that. its like a jrpg where you have to do the combat yourself instead of selecting stuff on a menu.
your class special moves are the equivalent of techs/skills. it barely has any story though. pretty fun, get it.

The best way to describe Dragon's Dogma is to say it's a Japanese western RPG.
It has the open world of a western RPG, but with the flashy looking combat of a Japanese ones. Elder Scrolls meets Monster Hunter in a way.

It's a fantastic game that was exclusive to PS3 so understandably there is hype right now surrounding the PC release.
The combat is solid, there is plenty of build freedom as everything is viable, the character creator has a ton of depth, pawn system is great, switching classes on the fly is great as well. Plenty of places to explore, and shit to do. Nice replayability.
My only gripe really is that there wasn't as much variety as i'd like to have had - skills, environments, enemies. The expansion really did a wonderful job addressing some of those issues. The PC release will undoubtedly have mods to address everything else.
It's hailed on /v/ for good reason. It's legitimately a good game.

It's biggest issues are framerate and resolution, both of which should be fixed by the PC version.
The other flaws are mostly minor; the lack of a plot is fine as-is, and since it's including DA you'll get the eternal ferrystone which fixes the biggest gameplay issue of walking everywhere and the tedium of encountering the same sets of bandits and goblins along the roads every single trip

Enemies are just damage sponges to a ridiculous degree, the world is average at best and the gameplay is typical hack and slash. The only real difference is the ability to mount creatures and crawl around them like some sort of retarded spider whose lost their sense of direction.

This really. Dragon's Dogma was a pretty ambitious game that ultimately got gutted to hell by Capcom but someone still managed to be a fun and charming game. One huge issue the game had was it was held back by consoles, do you know what it's like to use a Great Cannon on the Ur Dragon and get single digit frame rates?

MT framework is absolutely no guarantee that the game will run on a toaster. Will it run well? Sure. But DMC4 well? No, I seriously doubt it.
DMC4 PC port was very much lightning in a jar, it was made on an extremely PC optimized engine and it was before Japan really understood the bar of quality expected for PC ports.
No other MT framework port runs even close to as well as DMC4 if I remember. They all run GOOD, but not ridiculously great like DMC4. DMC4SE is an absolute system hog by comparison.

It's a very ambitious game that falls short of what the original design was supposed to be.
There are a lot of flaws to the game, but I would still call it an unpolished gem of a game, especially if you like fantasy and adventure.
A lot of the HUGE problems with the game though were the fact that it was unoptimized as fuck on consoles and you were forced to play the game with those two black bars on top and bottom which was fucking infuriating that you couldn't turn them off.
The combat also gets extremely repetitive if you are doing a melee build, which is disappointing because the game design lead is the guy who made DMC3 and 4. I was expecting maybe more attack variations, even Dynasty Warriors games has more attack animations.
Meh, don't play it for the combat like Dark Souls. Play it for the sense of adventure and dungeoning with your weird 4th dimensional robot clone freak waifus/husbandus that you create and share.

It's not like you can take a Fighter and mindlessly mash Dragon's Maw, even a Warrior spamming Arc has to use it properly rather than mindlessly.
I guess Sorcs could be mindless with Focused Bolt, but they have plenty of options so no reason to do that to yourself. Dunno about Rangers/Striders though.
