How do you buy nier? i heard there is a bunch of different versions so i'm not sure which to get
There's only 1 version in America. 2 in japan.
Only difference is that in the american one Nier is a dad rather than an older brother.
It's the better Nier.
There are only two versions.
Nier Gestalt has a father and daughter, and Nier Replicant has a brother and sister. Gestalt was the only one released in the West.

Drakengard 3 was stated to be a prequel to Drakengard, but none of DOD3's endings turned out to actually be in the same timeline as DOD1.

No. It just provides some more info about Nier's dead wife (or your mom in Replicant, I think).
It also makes farming for rare materials easier and you get some cool weapons that reference DOD1.

Play D1&2 if you can deal with 20 straight hours of mashing attack. Read up on it if you want to save 20 hours per game.
It's not like Nier plays substantially better but it's much more interesting story wise when compared to D1,2&3. At least for the time D1&2 were worth putting up with for the story but I wouldn't say that's the case today.
D3 plays the best but the story and characters are so uninteresting that it's not worth putting up with the better but still mundane mechanics.
