>Every fall for the past six years, Ubisoft has released at least one big new Assassin’s Creed game. This year, the mega-publisher will be breaking tradition, skipping fall for the first time since 2009.
>The next Assassin’s Creed is set in ancient Egypt and code-named Empire; t won’t launch until 2017.
>One person familiar with Ubisoft’s upcoming gaming plans told me this afternoon that the decision to delay Empire from fall 2016 was made after 2014’s disappointing Unity, and that this bump will allow the development team more room to improve and polish the game. The source said this bi-annual approach could be a new trend for Assassin’s Creed, which has suffered from franchise fatigue in recent years.
>Many have called for the company to take a break from the annual schedule, especially after the fall of 2014. That year, Ubisoft released two major Assassin’s Creed games—the buggy Unity and the surprisingly good Rogue—on the same exact day. The disappointment of Unity may have even negatively impacted sales of Syndicate, according to Ubisoft executives.

I'm personally disappointed. I love AC and like the annual new games.
>>
>>322643010
Well then just play Far Cry
>>
Egypt huh? Doesn't sound bad but unless they change up the formula a bit, it'll be the same crap, no matter how much time they put in it.

And for the sake of all that is holy, just remove the whole modern day thing entirely. Just, pretend it never happened and it'll make the series so much better.
>>

I'm not holding my breath, but fucking finally this turd of a franchise might redeem itself.

BF, Rogue and Syndicate were good, but I've been waiting for a game like AC2 for a long while.

And that doesn't mean they have to fucking clone it like they've been trying to, no, it means they have to deliver an outstanding AC game.

Because they were largely made by the same team that tried to scavenge AC3 by making Black Flag.

I would probably enjoy Assassin's Creed if it was a little more self-indulgent with how fucking stupid it is.

I love MGS because its retardedly complicated for no reason, but it is never afraid to poke fun at itself with stupid forth wall breaks and such. AC has the most bonkers plot ever but still tries to keep a straight about it, at least from the last games I've played.

As long as they discover the value of having some things NOT marked on the map.

Watch Dogs feels like the developers were terrified that you might possibly miss side content, to a point of retardation.

The murder scenes are the most obvious example.

Spooky murder scenes with creepy tapes and mutilated corpses would be creepy as fuck to just find by exploring, but when you slap a map marker there is turns into a check list to fill out rather than a world to discover.

I agree, I think the pace of the game was way too fast from the third mission on. There was so much to do I didn't feel like doing any of it. They need to revise the hacking completely because pressing x to do literally everything got really old and wore off. The E3 demo was super cool but understandably a little awkward and too slow. They should really make you feel the need to help with shit around the city and build up a character (weapons and gadgets and shit)

So is Egypt supposed to be Ancient Egypt, or British-occupied Egypt?

The latter would allow them to copy assets from Unity and Syndicate, but I hope they go the Ancient route, it's been a dream of mine for years.
>>
>>322643010
honestly, after the last one, I say they toss the franchise and start some spiritual successor series or something.

The story felt somewhat conclusive at III and by that time they had already kind of pushed the franchise to breaking point.

Hopefully the former. I can't describe how fucking sick I am of every AC post-Revelations being an almost exact copy-paste of eachother. they don't 'study' anything, they just have vague knowledge of commonly known Pharoahs and say they're black heroes

>>322653571
well obviously 1940s would be much much better but a sjw dev like ubisoft doesnt have the stones to touch something like that

Unity is fine if can get it running and AC3 is not nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It's one of the only ACs other ac1 that has well written "badguys" that are not just evil for the sake of being evil.

What determines main series vs. spinoff? I played Liberation... it's basically as much of a spinoff as Rogue is. It just wasn't initially released on consoles/PCs.

Ok, real question here.

Never played aby game of the franchise, Is it really worth getting into the Assassin's Creed games after all this titles?(this is pretty much the tl:dr version of the text below)

When i play a new franchise i usually like to play from the very first game (which is why i avoid some titles) and i've never played Assassins Creed aside from some demos and one time at a friend's house.

I've been always a poorfag (and since my country now has a new economic crisis i'll most likely stay poor for a long time) and i always wait for games to get on sale to buy and play them but, by the time i was able to buy assassin creed 1 the franchise already had more 2 or 3 games out, them i saw they were shitting 1 game a year like COD and them they were releasing 2 fucking games at a time and etc, etc.

This kinda killed my interest for the game until i saw this headline for a release every 2 years. With this i'll be able to get into the series slowly to enjoy each game properly and without burning out my interest on it but i don't know if it is worth the effort.

Should i play from the very first game? should i avoid any title? Should i play them in order or can i simply pick any of them and start playing?

Just start with Syndicate.

If you enjoyed Syndicate I reccommend Unity.

If you enjoyed Unity, then go to Black Flag and it's shoot offs (Rogue, Freedom Cry, Liberation) and if you liked those then play the rest.
>>
>>322654875
What about the overall story of the franchise? wouldn't it be better to start from the first one?
>>
>>322643010
Did they do this press release because it got leaked the other day on here?
It's gonna bomb, AC games are a joke now, their only appeal is "oh look, something I barely remember from history/some reddit tier historical event"

But that was a cancelled Prince of Egypt game

If you're interested in the story, the only game worth playing is the first one. It all kinda goes to shit after.

The Ezio trilogy (II, Brotherhood, Revelations) has a fun plot, but it's kinda outlandish compared to the grand conspiratorial vibe of the first one.

Black Flag (and to a lesser extent AC III) has the most memorable cast of characters in the series, but it's barely an AC game.

Unity tried to go for a tragic romance angle with a main character torn between two worlds, but it fell flat. Syndicate was just...meh.
>>
was syndicate even good?
I feel like it's the same shit every year.

>>322655778
It's decent as far as AC games go, but I guess that's not saying much. Like you yourself said, it's another AC. Just looks prettier.

I may be a bit biased here, but I don't feel any of the games are overly bad - /v/ likes to shit on 3 and Unity, but most of the criticism was due to buggy releases, which have mostly been patched since then anyway. In that way, you'd probably avoid a lot of the frustration people got from them. Other than the bugs, the series pretty much keeps a failry decent level throughout - there are low points, but they're not all that low, so what this amounts to is if you like the series' formula, you'll probably enjoy them atleast a bit.

As for where to start, the first AC really sets up the whole story, though it doesn't reveal all that much at this point and t gets summed up at the start of 2 anyway. Gameplay wise, it's definetly the most bare, but introduces most of the concepts the future games flesh out, so if you're into seeing the series evolve, it's worth seeing it start out. Otherwise, you can get through this one fairly quickly. Just ignore the collectible shit, it's ridiculously boring and doesn't matter anyway.

AC2 is a great way to start, in that you probably won't feel too left out of the overarching story and universe, but get to experience the smoother mechanics, fleshed out world and great atmosphere. This is probably one of the best titles in the series, unlike the first game, it's worth savoring this one - collectibles give insight on the world and characters, as well as special items. The period characters from 2 have their story continued in Brotherhood and Revelations. The modern day plot plays out through these games and ends in 3, which gets shat on a lot, mainly due to bugs and the retarded main character (the villains are actually way more developed as characters than the protagonist in this one).

After that, the real world stuff stops mattering all that much, so you're pretty much free to pick whichever title you want to start with, if you just want to get into the series' gameplay. Black Flag is arguably the best for that, though.

How can a series that revolves around templars take place in Egypt?
>>
>>322656649
>>322656649
Most people didn't like the setting and a lot of people didn't like Connor. But everyone hated how rush the story was in some areas and what they did to Desmond at the end just so they could milk the series. I for one didn't think it was bad. I like setting and even the characters. Connor gets a lot of shit but I think he's not too bad and it's understandable why he was so rash based on the context of what was happening. It was just okay at best and a big problem was everyone thought it was going to be the best AC ever, so when it couldn't stack up, everyone started shitting on it hard. The game really shines outside the main missions. The homestead missions are really the only time where Connor is very likable because he's not dealing serious shit. The boats and taking down forts are pretty fun too.

Yeah also the 6 hour tutorial didn't help.
>>
I'm just glad to hear they're moving farther away from present day. The earlier the time period the better

If we're just looking at the settings the ranking goes like this

2 > 1 >Revelations > Brotherhood > Black Flag > Unity > Syndicate

The characters better say random Egyptian phrases when they're talking similar to how Ezio and Altair spoke their respective languages.

I can get Syndicate for £23 on PS4.

Is it worth it?
The last AC that I played was Black Flag and while I enjoyed it, the Assassin's Creed parts were the worst parts of the game.

Do I have to complete another 30 eavesdropping missions?
